Fourth of July to feature family festivities

And what better way to honor those traditions than by spending a summer spell honoring Independence Day, Nappanee style? The daylong celebration will get underway early, beginning with the 8 a.m. launch of the Big Cup Golf Tournament at McCormick Creek Golf Course. Call the Clubhouse to register prior to the start of the tourney, 574-773-2725. At 9 a.m., the Nappanee Rotary Junior Olympics is set to take place at Stauffer Park. The competition is open to youngsters ages 5 - 12 on Field #l. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and prizes will be awarded. Have you seen the new "Wibbit" yet? This latest attraction to grace the City Pool will be up and running for adventurous water warriors, a floating obstacle course to challenge your skill! will take to the streets at 4 p m., with the line-up scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The route will follow Lincoln Street to Summit Street, down to Stauffer Park. No registration is necessary. Children are invited to participate in an old fashioned Kiddie Parade section toward the front of the procession with decorated bikes, wagons, scooters, costumes, pets, floats, and so forth. There will be prizes awarded for creativity, patriotism, and originality, judging will take place at 3:45 p.m. during the parade line-up, and the winners will be announced at the conclusion of the parade. Between 4:30 and 10 p.m., there will be a number of various activities situated at Stauffer Park, some of which will be free of charge, while others will require a nominal fee. Not to be missed is the Little Miss and Mister Firecracker pageant for youngsters ages 3-6. Day apparel. Prizes will be awarded. Also starting at 5 p.m., and continuing until 9 p.m. will be free swimming at the City Pool. Starting at 5:30 p.m., a Kids Firefighter Challenge will be held for children ages 5 - 12. The challenge includes an obstacle course, ladder climbing, and other rescuer themed activities. Prizes will be given. At 6:30 p.m., the popular Napp Town Hunt Down digital scavenger hunt begins, with teams canvassing Nappanee looking for clues and having a grand old time along the way. Registration is necessary, and a small fee does apply, with prizes awarded to the top teams. The Home Run Derby kicks off at 7:30 p.m., as does the Comhole Tournament. The Derby is for powerhouse hitters ages 7 and up, with batters trying their might to see who can get the ball to soar over the fence. Prizes are given in this contest. Teams of two are eligible to sign up for the Cornhole Tournament, with a S2O participation fee. Cash prizes will be awarded. Bring comfy chairs and

blankets and get settled in for a concert by the Country Jam Band, as they take to the stage for an 8 p.m. show. Then stay for the grand finale, which is the fireworks spectacular, set to begin at dusk, approximately 10:15 p.m.
