Soup for all ages
Photos by Merrie Chapman Kemersyn Hornish and Jilianna Klotz found the March 10 Soup for a Cause much worth the visit. LEFT: Jilianna, from Middlebury, found her soup too tasty to keep for herself. She is pictured feeding a spoonful to her grandmother, Cherri Klotz, Wakarusa. RIGHT: Kemersyn, daughter of Nick and Jenn Hornish, Nappanee, enjoyed studying the crowd and eating her salad. Family Christian Development Center, Nappanee, is one of two programs that will benefit from proceeds raised during the annual fundraiser.

Goshen. The women came bearing gift baskets to say thank you to emergency responders. Idea for the community outreach grew through a Grace Training Camp challenge which encouraged each group of women to participate in some form of community service. Cripe invited suggestions from ReMarkable women serving with them. After careful consideration and prayer, members of Group #27 agreed on the idea of saying thank you to those who provide safety and assistance during crises. One of five ideas presented, the gift basket concept came from Mary Cripe, Town Manager for the Town
of Middlebury. While she is not a local resident, Cripe said she was inspired to honor Nappanee responders because the majority of Group #27 are Nappanee area residents. Five of the group's 12 members visited the fire, EMS and police departments delivering baskets of food to share. Included in the basket was a note thanking members of each group for their service to the community, sacrifice of time, and risking their own lives in responding to each call to service. Sheila Aukerman, Mary Cripe, Paula Hochstetler, Karen Martin and Loretta Miller brought to each department fresh baked goods for immediate use bagged snacks to enjoy later and promise of future desserts to be delivered during departmental meetings. The women included food gift cards and inspirational and scripture passages as daily encouragement resources. Also part of the group, but unable to attend, were: Alyssa Fergusoa AJ Hartman, Erika Scheets, Colleen Shay, Myra Simpson and Dava Trant.
