GOLF Weaver has tough round INDIANAPOLIS MacKenzie Weaver had a tough round at the girls state golf tournament but did salvage the day with an eagle - the only one recorded by any golfer on the day. Weaver holed a 125 foot shot from the rough on the par four second hole using a nine iron. She ended with a 176 which was good enough for 56th place in the 100-golfer field. Stillson in top 10 LEE HIGHWAY, Term. North Wood's Cybil Stillson competed in Tennessee in the "Drive, Chip, and Putt" competition hosted by the The Masters Tournament, the USGA and PGA. She competed at the Honors Course in Lee Highway, Term, and shot an 85 (18 drive, 22 chip, 45 putt), good enough to finish sixth in her regional. Only the winner advances to Augusta National. Stillson is a member of the class of 2022 at North Wood High School. JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL Seventh grade clinches NAPPANEE The North Wood seventh grade football team clinched the Big 11 Eastern Division Championship with a solid win at Andrews Field over visiting Northridge by the score of 35-12. The offense piled up 345 total yards behind the great efforts of the offensive line of Montana Green, Braydon Winslow, Jesse Wilson, Ashton Hochstetler and Jace Adams. Ethan Evers rushed for 86 yards and a 50-yard touchdown while Kaden Lone added 47, Ben Fattorusso 24, and Troy Cutter 6. Lone had a great night throwing the ball as he tossed four TD passes and had 164 yards through the air on 9-11 passing. Chase Duerksen caught two touchdown passes while Logan Perry and Fattorusso had one each. Camden Ransberger added a point after touchdown catch and Duerksen kicked 2 extra points. The defense received big efforts from Caleb Branam, CJ Kuhn, Kaden Lone, Ben Fattorusso, and Cody Miller as they all recorded 4 hits each. Miller had two quarterback sacks while Cutter and Ransberger had one each. Caden Salinas and Duerksen had an interception each and Fattorusso had a fumble recovery. The Panthers will play next Tuesday for the Big 11 Championship against John Young. In the B game Caden Salinas tossed two touchdown passes to lead the Panthers to a 14-0 win. Salinas threw a 65 yard TD to Aiden Greenlee and a 17 yarder to Logan Perry. Troy Cutter rushed for 25 yards and Salinas 24.

Bth grade falls to Northridge MIDDLEBURY Northridge took a 20-8 win over North Wood's eighth grade football team. Cooper Wins had 60 yards rushing and was 6 of 15 passing for 83 yards. He also had the only score of the game for North Wood with a 52-yard touchdown run. Leading the Panthers offensively was Annika Bennett with five kills, followed by Alana Leman and Emma Martz each with two kills. Emma Martz, Kira Gongwer, and Jadyn Gessinger were all powerful contributors from the service line with three aces each. The team advances their record to 10-1. Eighth beats Goshen NAPPANEE The eighth grade A team beat Goshen in two sets, 25-21 25-19. Leading the Panthers offensively was Jadyn Gessinger with five kills, Kira Gongwer with three kills, Alana Lehman, Annika Bennett, and Emma Martz each had two kills, and Lexy Hess had one kill. Emma Martz had a huge run of 14 serves with five total aces, while Kira Gongwer and Annika Bennett each had two aces. VOLLEYBALL NW shuts out Jimtown NAPPANEE North Wood's Lady .Panthers took a 3-0 win over Jimtown by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 26-24. Kennedy Wiens had 16 kills.
