WAKARUSA DIAL-A-STORY WAKARUSA "The Golden Cobwebs" is currently running on the Wakarusa Public Library Dial-a-Story line at 574-862-4441. Callers will hear this delightful Christmas story about the spiders who spun cobwebs all over a Christmas tree and the king who turned them into gold. GATHER 'ROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE WAKARUSA Head to downtown Wakarusa on the evening of Monday, Dec. 12 to celebrate the arrival of the Christmas season. The town will once again be sponsoring "Christmas Around the Tree" at 6:30 p.m., with free cookies, hot chocolate, and lots of caroling and holiday music. There is also expected to be a special appearance by Santa Claus himself. FOOD DRIVE AIDS OPEN DOOR NAPPANEE People Link Staffing of Nappanee is having a food drive to raise supplies for Nappanee Open Door. Simply bring in a non-perishable item to the office, located at 107 W. Lincoln St., between now and Dec. 30. For each item brought in, the donor receives one entry for a drawing to possibly win one of two SSO Visa gift cards. resulted in a grand total of $204,431.61 in additional appropriations being requested from Nappanee's City Wide TIF District. This measure is in addition to the $213,851.85 in City Wide TIF dollars already budgeted toward costs of the additional downtown parking lot, large trash collection bin to accommodate downtown businesses, and creation of additional buggy parking. The total of both measures, $418,283.46, is outlined in Ordinance #1532 which was approved at the Nov. 21 Nappanee Common Council meeting. Additional Heritage Farms annexation was also approved on third reading at the same meeting. Nappanee Common Council meets at 7 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month, inside the Nappanee Municipal Build-ing, 300 W. Lincoln St. Meetings are open to

Thanksgiving 2016 wasn't the brightest of sunlit days, but neither was it the darkest. It wasn't the wannest, but it also was not the coldest of days. These athletes made the most of it and enjoyed the cooler morning temperatures participating in the annual "I'm Thankful Four" walk/run event held each fall in honor of Kelsey Mikel-a former North Wood High School runner who was killed in an auto accident during her time there as a student. The event raises money for scholarships to benefit new students each year.

Freeman Hershberger took part in annual "I'm Thankful Four'' run/walk. It was report ed he did so just four days before his 79th birthday. This event has become a Thanksgiving Day tradition for many athletes. It is spoil sored by the Kelsey Mikel Memorial foundation in honor of a North Wood runner struck down in an auto accident while still in high school. "I'm Thankful Four" takes place in the morning hours each Thanksgiving Day, and welcomes all runhers/walkers from all areas and every skill level. There is both a two mile and four mile course.
