Cross country 2 LADY PANTHERS, OLVERA ADVANCE North Wood's girls cross country team bowed out of the tournament one place shy of semistate advancement at the Elkhart Central Regional Saturday. The Lady Panthers placed sixth a second year in a row, just seven points shy of fifth-place Wawasee. Penn won the meet with a 36, Northridge was second with a score of 45, Concord was third in 104, and Adams placed fourth with a score of 133. Two North Wood girls did make the cut out to semistate individually. Junior Erica Stutsman earned her third semistate berth in 10th place overall with a time of 19:59.37. Fellow junior Kate Jarvis qualified for her second semistate with a 21:00.84 stop for 28th place overall. Jennifer Martinez was 45th in 21:38.03, Ariana Runge was 50th in 21:44.13, Megan Miller was 56th in 21:59.54, and Hannah Brubaker was 81st in 21:16.79. Meanwhile, for North Wood's boys, Emanuel Olvera earned a berth to the Fort Wayne Semistate with a time of 17:01.47, good enough for 14th overall. Tyler Evers was just three seconds from earning a semistate berth, placing 28tn overall with a time of 17:26.03. Penn won the boys meet with a dominant 27 after sweeping the top three spots, Northridge was second with a 116 score, Riley was third with a 125, and Concord and Wawasee tied

The Lady Panthers beat Homestead 25-18, 25-22 but fell in two games to Lawrence North (25-14, 25-16) and Bishop Noll (25-9, 25-17) and in three games to Northern Lakes Conference foe Northridge (25-21, 22-25,19-17). Kennedy Wiens finished with a team-high 39 kills to go with 39 digs and four blocks at the tourney. Haylee Pennington recorded 16 kills and seven blocks.
