Girls soccer NW ADVANCES, BUT CLOSES WITH LOSS North Wood advanced to the Warsaw Sectional final with a 4-0 win over Northern Lakes Conference foe Wawasee. Avery Bontrager put the Lady Panthers on the board in the 10th minute, while Savannah Feenstra added a second goal on a Betsy Nunemaker assist in the 15th minute. Nunemaker scored a goal of her own on a Cassie Yoder helper early in the second half, and the score remained 3-0 North Wood until Tatiana Guillen's goal in the 78th minute brought the game to its final margin. The two teams were locked in a 0-0 stalemate at the half, but Breck Jackson's free kick from more than 40 yards out gave Warsaw all the offense it would ever need. Sydney Wiedeman and Anna Grill added insurance goals for the Tigers. North Wood's tallied just one shot on goal, and that didn't come until the 61st minute. Volleyball LADY PANTHERS EARN NLC WIN North Wood's volleyball team earned its second Northern Lakes Conference win of the year in convincing fashion, beating Wawasee in three quick games, 25-17, 25-16,25-13. Kennedy Wiens finished with 13 kills and 10 digs, while Haylee Pennington recorded nine kills and three blocks. Whitney Gessinger served up a total of six aces, while Courtney Lengacher recorded three aces and 32 assists. Taitlyn Trenshaw led in defensive passing alongside Wiens with 10 digs. The Panthers finished with a 157 team total, while Northridge won the meet with a score of 69, Concord was second with a 76 score, Wawasee was third with an 84, and Goshen was fourth with a score of 95. While North Wood bowed out of the team tourney, both Emanuel Olvera and Tyler Evers earned top 10 spots among individuals from non-advancing schools to earn individual regional berths. Olvera was eighth overall in 16:54, and Evers was 13th in 17:10.
