JV FOOTBALL Panther JV, 9th teams grab first wins After dropping its season-opener to Jimtown, the North Wood Panther JV football team bounced back to defeat Fairfield 16-12. Quarterback Kyler Hauptli put the Panthers in the lead with a 1-yard TD run in me first quarter, and, after a pair of Fairfield scores, Jarrett Spahr returned a kickoff 75 yards for the game-winning touchdown. Spahr added a two-point PAT as did Jaden Miller to seal the win. Meanwhile the freshman team defeated Jimtown 20-18 in a wild finish. The Jimmies took the lead 18-12 with less than a minute to play and then recovered an onside kick, but the Panthers forced a fumble and took over near midfield with 29 seconds to play. Quarterback Brock Flickenger completed a pass to Jason Borkholder to the 20-yard line, but a last-second pass was intercepted by Jimtown as the clock expired. Unfortunately for the Jimmies, they were whistled for 12 men on the field, giving North Wood one last untimed play. Flickenger made the most of it, finding Jake Lone in the end zone from 10 yards out for the dramatic game-winning TD, setting off an epic celebration by the Panthers. GIRLS GOLF Lady Panthers runners-up at invite North Wood's girls golf team placed second at the Culver Girls Academy Invitational at Swan Lake over the weekend, shooting a 353 behind Lake Central's 347.
