WEAR ORANGE IN SUPPORT SEPT. 8 WA-NEE - September is Hunger Action Awareness Month. In cooperation with the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, the goal is to raise awareness and action to the need for feeding the hungry in our community. Nearly 14 percent of the people who live in northern Indiana are food insecure. They are our neighbors, co-workers, friends, and yes, even family members who often do now know when their next meal will come. Thursday, Sept. 8 is "Hunger Action Awareness Day." Orange is the symbolic color of hunger. The community is encouraged to go bold and bright and wear an orange shirt that day. FINAL DAY TO SIGN UP FOR CHALLENGE NAPPANEE - Thursday, Sept. 8 is the final day for registration in the Youth Fishing Challenge, sponsored by Ducks Unlimited and the Nappanee Park Department. The event will be held on Saturday, September 10 at McCormick Creek Golf Course at 8 a.m. and again at 9 a.. Bait will be provided, however, participants need to bring their own rod and reel. There will be prizes awarded in different categories. The age range spans from five to 17 years old. Please call the Nappanee Parks Department at 574-773-2112 for more details. Bicentennial torch relay nears finalization i By Amy Lant-Wenger Assistant Editor ELKHART COUNTY When the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay winds its way through Elkhart County in just under one month, there will be some very familiar faces carrying the symbolic flame. Early in the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Elkhart County stretch of the statewide run will get underway, with opening festivities slated to begin at 8 a.m. at the Myßrook Dairy Farm, 57922 CR 43, Middlebury, the official starting point for this region. In all, 40 torchbearers will journey along a 52-mile route that will light a path through Middlebury, Elkhart, Goshen, Nappanee, and Wakarusa. Local and state dignitaries are scheduled to appear at the ceremony, featuring Mike Oesch, a representative of the dairy farm, along with four of the local runners Sylvia Rodo Diaz, Mark Mikel, Deborah Washington, and Truman Weaver. "The process of identifying Elkhart County residents to partidpate in the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay through Elkhart County has provided us an opportunity to be reminded of our community's rich and deep resources of diversity, talent, and personal commitment to our community," said Elkhart County Commissioner Mike Yoder, who will be the Master of Ceremonies at Myßrook Dairy Farm. Elkhart County's Torchbearers reflect a commitment to community and outstanding contributions to business, education, arts and culture, and public service and inspiration throughout the community. The Torchbearers were selected over a period of several months, creating a diverse group that addressed flaws that were revealed in the state of Indiana's selection process. Jose Elizalde, of LaCasa, Inc., who partidpated in the selection process, said, "I am delighted to have been part of this process. The level of cooperation was both impressive and humbling. Elkhart County has a lot to be proud of. With the new and strong leadership of the Latino community, the future of our county looks promising. Completing your family tree?

That is the day that the Elkhart County Genealogical Society will be hosting an open house at the Goshen Public Library auditorium from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to bring their laptops for an afternoon of discovery and research. Whether just starting out with a heritage project, or perhaps seeking for years, there will be a number of knowledgeable members on hand to guide and assist guests
Children’s Resale branches out, expands to three events

So now, the twice-yearly Children's Resale, where shopping savvy parents go to find the best deals anywhere in children's apparel, toys, furniture, and many other wares, has grown to indude three separate sales. Among those will be the one scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at thq Ramer Mennonite Youth Center, located at 22467 CR 44 in Nappanee. This change in destination has transpired in light of a new umbrella of sponsorship for the popular sale. Formerly under the guidance of the Wakarusa Missionary Church, the Resale Committee now works with the affiliation of College Mennonite Chinch in Goshen. In an effort to make the affair more accessible, and to enlarge the availability of floor space for browsing, the sale on Saturday will actually be the first of three separate opportunities to shop. There will be two consecutive sales, one in three weeks at Faith United Methodist Church on CR 18, and another to follow at College Mennonite
