Death Notice CHARUES WILLIAM GREEN JR. July 26,2016 NAPPANEE Charles William Green Jr., 80, of Nappanee, died unexpectedly at 8:46 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Elkhart General Hospital emergency room. Thompson-Lengacner & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee is handling arrangements. Around, from front Commerce is collaborating with the Nappanee Public Library and several business leaders to present the ninth annual "School Supply Daze," to be held at the library on Saturday, August 6 at 10 a.m. Parents and guardians of schoolchildren in the Wa-Nee district can stop by and collect needed school supplies, free of charge, thanks to the generosity of donations from throughout the community. NAPPANEE Asa special part of the Nappanee "Second Saturdays" celebration on Saturday, August 13, Light of Grace bookstore will be welcoming the Berenstain Bears as they unveil their latest children's book, entitled "School Tune Blessings." The stars of this popular and enduring children's series will be on hand from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Light of Grace bookstore is located inside the historic Coppes Commons facility, just east of downtown Nappanee. APPLE FESTIVAL PAGEANT DETAILS NAPPANEE There is still time to register for the Nappanee Miss Apple Blossom Scholarship Pageant, which will be the headlining event of the 41st annual Nappanee Apple Festival. The deadline is Tuesday, Aug. 16, and participation is open to young women between the ages of 16 and 21 who reside in Elkhart County and the entirety of the Wa-Nee School District. The pageant winner will receive a SI,OOO scholarship, with other monetary awards given in other categories. Open Class Home & Family Arts Department; Special Contest - President Dr. Robert Zell's Baked Item - Rhubarb Pie 14 exhibitors participated. First place • Rhubarb Pie: Linda Hartzell, Wakarusa Crust: 3 cups flour 1 T. sugar 1 cup butter-flavored shortening Pinch of salt legg 1/3 cup cold water 1 T. vinegar Filling: 3 cups rhubarb 1 cup sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 3 T. cornstarch 1/4 cup water Crumb topping: 1/2 stick butter 1/2 cup sugar 3/4 cup flour For crust, mix flour, sugar, shortening and salt to form crumbs. Add egg, water and vinegar. Roll to desired size. For filling, Mix sugar, cornstarch, and salt in water; add rhubarb. Bring to a boil in medium-sized pan. Cook until thick. Pour into unbaked pie shell. Mix crumb topping ingredients thoroughly and add to top of pie. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat
