Nappanee Public Library KNITTING GROUP After several successful classes on beginner knitting skills in the Nappanee Public Library's makerspace, instructor, Rebecca Haney, is coordinating an ongoing knitters' group at the library. Those interested will meet every other month on the second Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. to work together on projects, learn new skills, and get help with familiar ones. Ages twelve and up are welcome, and participants must bring their own supplies. The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 12 Bring any current project, or learn to knit a scarf. Those wishing to start a scarf should bring an 8 oz. skein of 4-ply yam and a pair of size 10 knitting needles. No registration is required. TON COOKING CIASS Learn to make somesimple, yummy snacks at a free cooking class for teens at the Nappanee Public Library. Students age 11 -17 will gain some basic skills for becoming comfortable in the kitchen as they mix up a batch of pizza dip and some no-bake snowball cookies on Thursday, Jan. 14, from 4-5:30 p.m. Call the library to register. QUILT GUILD MEETING The Nappanee Quilt Guild, a club for those interested in new quilting techniques, meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Nappanee Public Library. Members will meet at the library next on Jan. 14,2016 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Membership for the "Artful Quilters" is open to anyone. Join the fun and fellowship with other quilters while keeping up to date with new activities and techniques in the quilting world. Bring your own projects to share, check out planned programs for the coming year, and sign up for trips. Set aside some time to finish books you've begun, or start a new one for the new year! Blank notebooks and some tools and supplies will be provided for free along with snacks, drinks and giveaways. SCRAPBOOKING CLASS Paper designer, blogger and professional crafter Jill Lebbin, of EveryDaylsAnOccassion.com, returns to the Nappanee Library's makerspace on Tuesday, Jan. 19, from 6-8 p.m. to instruct another edition of 'Silhouette School'. The topic will be 'Easy Scrapbooking'. This will be a great chance for makers to learn the ins and outs of the Silhouette Cameo digital cutter and all of its capabilities while making a simple and attractive five-word page layout. Jill will also share her favorite ways to memory keep, from online services to scrapbook systems that make corralling all of those pictures on your phone or camera into keepsakes in an easy and efficient way. The class is free and open to ages 12 and up, but participants are asked to register by Jan. 12. 3D PRINTING AND SCANNING BASICS Join the Nappanee Public Library on Jan. 28 to learn how to program, run and troubleshoot projects on our Makerbot printer and scanner and become certified to use them independently. The program will run from 6-8 p.m. in the library's Cube Makerspace. Attendees must register by no later than Jan. 26 at 9 p.m. Must be an NPL cardholder. The festival has come a long way from the clothes line arts show, once held downtown in front of Pletchers Furniture Village over fifty years ago. The American Bus Association (ABA) has voted the festival, a 'Top 100 event in North America', for the seventh year in a row. Beautiful weekend for the Apple Festival Thursday, Sept. 24 The Apple Festival saw minimal rain this past weekend in as the town celebrated the festivals 40th year. Local legend ‘Doc’ Abel celebrates 91st birthday Thursday, Nov. 19 Dr. Robert "Doc" Abel rang in his 91st birthday last week at Miller's Senior Living Center in Wakarusa before a waiting crowd of Mends and area residents. Stationed on the second floor, the crowd waited in silence as the doors to the elevator opened and Abel emerged to shouts of "surprise" and "happy birthday". Santa Claus comes to town Thursday, Dec. 10 Gale Gerber made sure that Santa Claus and his sleigh visited the children at the Nappanee Public Library.
