Million Can March success

The 12th annual Million Can March food drive was a wonderful success, raising 4,769 non-perishable food items. All of your generous donations will go to the Open Door Food Pantry to be distributed back into the community. A special thanks to Martin's grocery store for donating the bags that were used to collect the items. Also a special thanks to John Personette, Roxy Elphick, the United Methodist Church and all the volunteers that helped distribute the bags, collect the items and deliver them to the Open Door Food Pantry. Apple Festival Wings and Wheels event needs 4 help to gather donations

By Heather Bradley Advance Editor NAPPANEE The annual Wings and Wheels event that is going on Sept. 19 during the Apple Festival is still accepting donations. Any and all donations would be very appreciated and assist in making the event possible. Some of the items still needed are gift certificates or coupons from $lO to $25 and any items that can be used to put into goody bags. There is a need to be able to fill 100 to 120 goody bags. Each car show register will receive a goody bag. Some ideas of what kinds of items that can be placed inside

WAKARUSA • The Wakarusa library will be closed Monday, Sept. 7 for Labor Day. • Book Bites will take place on Sept. 9 at 10:15 a.m. Stories the children will hear will be "Dot & Jabber: The Great Acorn Mystery" by Ellen Stoll Walsh. Visitors will have an opportunity to participate in a craft or activity related to the story. No registration is required, and all ages are welcome to attend. • A Story Hour will be held on Sept. 14 and 15 for children ages 3 to 5 at 10:15 a.m. in the Kids Department, for those who are registered in the program. Children will hear "Mr. Tiger Goes Wild" by Peter Brown. Beginning Story Hour for kids ages 18 to 36 months will be held on Sept. 16 at 10 a.m., and they will hear 'Busy Little Squirrel' by Nancy Tafuri. • Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. is Family Game Night with life-sized games of Jenga, Tic Tac Toe and Memory. There will also be fun trivia and board games such as Beat the Parents and Go Fish. Registration is required for this event, and at least one parent must accompany each family. • "The Coyote and the Bear"is currently running on the Dial-A-Story line at 862-4441. The story is about how the coyote learns a lesson in farming.

The Wings and Wheels Show is expecting a huge turnout of at least around 2,000 people or more. There will be flights for children, skydivers, and the car/airplane show. NAPPANEE • On Sept. 11, there will be an American Girls Club pajama party, after hours, from 7 to 11 p.m. Girls in grades one through five are invited to attend the special event. Be sure to come in your pajamas, slippers and have fun making crafts, having snacks and watching the movie 'Grace Stirs Up Success'. » The library board meeting will also be held on Sept. 11 at 7:45 a.m., and the public is welcome to attend. • Sept. 12 is kids craft ip the Kids Department from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children will be able to make a set of wind chimes that will be made from all recycled materials and beads. Craft Day is held on the second Saturday of every month. , • An Electronic Cutter Class will be held on Sept. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. in The Cube, which features a Silhouette Cameo electronic cutter and printer. The Cameo can be used to customize scrapbook pages, cards, apparel, vinyl and glass etching designs. Professional crafter, paper designer and blogger, Jill Lebbin will be teaching the class how to make a decorative fraipwfr Vonogram. The cost of the class is $5, and registration is required by Sept. 8 by calling 574-773-7919. i Also on Sept. 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the Book Club will meet to discuss 'The Smartest Kids in the World: And How They Got That Way' by Amanda Ripley.
