Dining with diabetes cooking
GOSHEN There is still opportunity to sign-up for the Dining with Diabetes Cooking School. Stephanie Polei, Registered Dietitian and Extension Educator in Health and Human Sciences for Elkhart County will lead this series with Extension Educator Mary Ann Lienhart Cross. The Dining with Diabetes series begins April 8, 2014, and continues weekly on Tuesdays through April 29. glasses will be held from either 1 Conference Room of the Elkhart County Extension Office on the 4-H Fairgrounds in Goshen. The four-week series of classes costs S3O per person or S4O per couple of the same household. Participants are encouraged to attend all classes. SPRING BREAK STAYCATION NAPPANEE No plans to hit the beach or the big city this year for Spring Break? No worries; visit the Nappanee Public Library for a week full of "staycation" fun! The Children's Department has scheduled a lineup of daily open activities and special programs April 7 April 13 to keep little bodies busy and families entertained. Open Lego building, crafts and board games will be available from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday. Join in the fun on Tuesday, from 1-2 p.m. for the Pirate Show with Squiffy Paul O! Singer/Songwriter/ Musician, Paul Odenwelder, will make the Golden Ages of Pirates come to life in his lively adventure show full of music, magic and imagination for all ages. A family-friendly Uno tournament will be held on Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. The winner will receive bragging rights and the title of NPL Uno Champ. All ages and Uno formats are welcome. Enjoy a movie on the big screen Thursday from 1 - 2:30 p.m. Reunite with some of the most unforgettable characters in animation and learn the "Bare Necessities" of life in this thrilling jungle adventure. Popcorn and drinks will be served.

Aside from the prevention of fraud, pollbooks will reduce supply cost, eliminate paper waste and allow the facilities to run with fewer paid workers from 585 paid pollworks to 225. Since the county is required to have a ballot for every registered voter in the area, new pollbooks will help eliminate paper waste. Kirby Vernon Alexander June 23, 1924 - March 9, 2014
KOKOMO Kirby Vernon Alexander went home to the Lord on March 9, 2014. He was bom June 23, 1924
in Chicago, Dl. to Joseph Vernon and Mabel (Paine) Alexander. He lived his early life in Chicago before moving in March 1942 to Nappanee where he graduated that June from Nappanee High School. It was there that he first met the love of his life and future wife, Josephine Alyce Mullett. He attended Purdue University, but was drafted into the US. Army in March 1943. He served in the 180th Infantry, 14th Armored
Division. Prior to going oversees to participate in the second invasion of France, he wed Josephine on Aug. 5, 1944 at First Mennonite Church in Nappanee. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 battle stars. He was a devoted husband and father, an active member of his church and supporter of his community. He was a former member of the Kokomo Country Club, and a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA), and the 14th Armored Division Association. A distinguished member of AAMA, Kirby received the association's Charles Martin Hall Award for meritorious achievement and leadership in 1982, and recognition as the association's Outstanding Member in 1988. Left to carry on his memory are his five children, Holly Bardoe of Columbus, Ohio; Bruce (Mary Jo Hardy) of Okemos, Mich.; Barbara of Kokomo; James (Gail) of Niles, Mich.; and Scott (Kimberly) of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren Matthew (Cheryl) Bardoe; Benjamin (Jennifer Vallier); Emily; Renee (Jeremy) Crabtree; Jamie; Audrey (Troy) Emsberger; Shelby; Brady; Kirby Jo; and Cooper; great-grandchildren Ethan and Amelia Bardoe, and Tai and Baylee Crabtree; and many beloved nephews, nieces and cousins. The family extends it deep appreciation to the staff of Waterford Health Campus of Kokomo for the loving care provided to our father as he approached the end of his life. Friends called one hour prior to the 11 a.m. (EDT) funeral service on Friday, March 14,2014 at Grace United Methodist Church of Kokomo, 219 W. Mulberry St. Burial will take place in Robinson, 111. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
