Romaine E. Weaver Martin June 22, 1909 - Dec. 24, 2013 GOSHEN Romaine E. Weaver Martin, 104, died peacefully Tuesday morning, Dec. 24, 2013 at Greencroft
Healthcare, Goshen. She was bom June 22, 1909 in Goshen to Charles E. and Fannie (Cripe) Brumbaugh. On Feb. 15, 1936 she married Harley C. Weaver in Goshen. He died Oct. 22, 1980. She married Raymond Martin May 6, 1995 in Nappanee. He died Dec. 7, 2001. She is survived by a daughter, Frances (Ray) Landis, Goshen; a stepdaughter, Betty (Don) Fervida, and stepson, Dennis (Sherry) Martin,
both of Nappanee; three grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Brumbaugh in 1940. A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Martin was a 1928 graduate of Goshen High School, and member at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church. She worked at the Chase Bag Company during the Depression, and also had a retail stand at the Elkhart Farmers Market from 1940 through the mid-1980s. Romaine and her first husband Harley were longtime dairy farmers south of Wakarusa. A memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 27, at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church. Reverends Terry Diener and Matt Yoder officiated. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be directed to Clinton Frame Mennonite Church, for library audio books, which Romaine loved to use when she could no longer read. Interactive alert system launched
Elkhart - In a press conference on Friday, Dec. 20, Sheriff Bradley Rogers of the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department announced the launch of the ECSD Alert Network; a new interactive way to keep the community connected informed through opt-in e-mails and web published public safety alerts. Interested persons can sign up for the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office Alert Network for free via a dedicated web page link found on the Sheriff's Office website, www.elkhartcountysheriff.com, or by clicking the link on the Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

WAKARUSA Registration for Story Hour begins on Jan. 3. This program is for children three to five years old. Participants will hear a story, do an activity and participate in a craft. Sessions will begin at 10:15 a.m. Feb. 3 or Feb. 4. Toddler Time is a time for children 25 to 36 months to take part in a time of sharing with an accompanying adult. Sessions will begin at 10 a.m. Feb 19. Children and their accompanying adult may begin registering on Jan. 3. Students in sixth through eighth grade are invited to sign-up for the Young Adult Book Club. This group will read the book "The Watsons Go to Burmingham - 1963" by Christopher Paul Curtis.
