NEWS FROM THE WAKARUSA PUBUC ÜBRARY WAKARUSA - Children will hear a story about a cobbler during Story Hour on Dec 9 and Dec 10. Registration is required • Christmas is coming! Join the staff of the Wakarusa Public Library for a story, activities, treats and the making of annual Christmas crafts. These events will take place during the after school special at 330 p.m. Dec. 10. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade may attend. Registration is required. • Children and their caregivers may hear a story and do an activity during lapsit at 10 a.m. Dec. 11. Registration is required. • A special drawing will be held between Dec. 9 and Dec. 21. A container with beads inside will be placed at the front desk. Patrons may guess the number of beads each time they visit the library. One winner will receive a collection of six winter-themed books. • The Wakarusa Library Board will meet at 7:45 a.m. Dec 13 in the library meeting room. • The library will be opening at 10 a.m. Dec. 18 due to a staff holiday celebration. • Patty Hailing, a State and Federal Navigator for the Affordable Care Act will be at the Wakarusa Library at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5. Hailing will also visit the library at 2:30 p.m. Dec, 9 and will be explaining the Affordable Care Act and answering questions. Both sessions will be the same.

Appliance store doing business in Bremen

Bv Dani Molnar Editor BREMEN - The first appliance store in Bremen in over 15 years opened it's doors in November. "It's something that my husband's been wanting to do for a while," Christine Swihart, co-owner of JS Appliance Outlet in Bremen, said. Appliance stores went out of style when the big retail stores began offering lower-end equipment and customers appreciated the convience of getting everything in one place. The nearest appliance store, which was in Nappanee, went out of business over a year ago. Companies, however, still offer unique products to deal-er-specific stores. "You won't find the models at Sears," she explained. The models are exclusive to dealers. "In their eyes, it's a better product," Steve Swihart, Christine's husband and co-owner of the store, said. "The other advantage we have is that the personnel is trained," Steve explained. Steve and Christine Swihart and their children Stephen Swihart and Christen White, have lived in Bremen in 1986. They own JS Heating and Air, sell windows and are the owners of a mobile home park in Plymouth, so they understand the needs of customers coming into their store. Although still a very new store, the Swihart's have been making plans for nearly 30 years and there are even more to come to the small building. In the near future, they'll begin selling Serta mattresses and small appliances, too. JS Appliance Outlet is located at 1413 W. Plymouth St., Bremen.
