Little old man steals the show at the Kiwanis Costume Party
BREMEN A fun time was had by those in attendance at the Kiwanis Costume Party on Oct 29. The Bremen High School Band led the children and parents on a parade from the firestation down the beautiful fall colored streets to the school, Bremen Community Cares. The parade finished off at middle school gym where the Kiwanis and Key dub members had the characters parade in front of the judges. The costumes were outstanding and the youngsters all very cute. After many difficult decisions, the judges picked the first, second and third place winners in the eight age groups. Winners received trophies and all participants received a ribbon. The winners are: Infant to age two: Jared Schrock, first place and overall winner of the contest, as a grandfather or old man; Turner Graverson, second place, as a shark; and Isaiah Freed, third place, as a firefighter. Weather doesn’t discourage trick-or-treaters at North Wood Middle School
Bv Amy Wf.ngf.r Advance Correspondent WAKARUSA While the wicked weather of Halloween evening may have literally put a damper on the plans of discouraged trick-or-treaters, it certainly did not lessen the enthusiasm of dozens of creatively attired revelers who came to celebrate the night at North Wood Middle School in Wakarusa on Thursday, Oct. 31. The crowds came in impressive numbers to participate in costume judging and other themed festivities, as part of the town's annual Fall Party. - The middle school gymnasium was the setting for the competition, with carnival inspired games held nearby. Just inside the lobby, Dr. Abel and his wife greeted guests with cider and doughnuts, while towering spirals of cotton candy were doled out at an adjoining table. The orchestration of the 2013 Fall Party was made possible through sponsorship of the following organizations: Green Bicycle Boutique, Frontier Communications, Grandma's Pantry, J & N Stone, Dr. Weldy's Associates, Highland Firearms & Sporting Goods, Richmond's Feed Service, Cook's Pizza, Weldy Insurance, Schwartz Electric, JVj*, Gal® & A#sMj Sayers, Livin Lite Corporation, Provident Tool, Thompson-Lengacher-Yoder Funeral Home, Dru's Jewelry, Pro IT Solutions and New to You Consignment Store. The judges had a difficult task in selecting the winners of the various costume contests, with several ties being revealed. Those who placed in a humber of categories received gift certificates and other similar prizes. The list of winners is as follows: Animals, Sports, & Service Heroes - Non-Cartoon (Ages 0-4): Ist - Maggie Roberts as Maggie the Mouse; 2nd - Brecken Manifold as Young Doc Abel; 3rd - Sean Nave as Yard Gnome.
