Visitation was from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Funeral began at 7 p.m. Inurnment is in Union Center Cemetery. Forrest Glen Reed Oct. 26, 2013 NAPPANEE Forrest Glen Reed, 80, of Nappanee, died at 10:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at his residence. Surviving are his wife, Julia Anne Reed; daughters, Rita (Michael) Polston, Lake Wales, Fla., Cheryl (Francisco) Matos, Windsor, Conn.; sons, G. Steven (Yvonne) Reed, Wayne C. Reed, both of Nappanee, William Franklin (Edie) Reed, Haines City, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grand-children; sisters, Lucille Matz, Linda (Allan) Corwin, both of Wakarusa; brothers, Lewis "Bill" (Vivian) Reed, Elkhart, George J. Reed, Mentone; and stepsister, Dora Gosbin, Crumstown. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at ThompsonLengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and for one hour prior to the funeral service which will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 1, at Nappanee Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Hepton Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Nappanee Fire Dept, or Nappanee Church of the Brethren. Lydia Rose Hochstetler Oct. 25, 2013 NAPPANEE Lydia Rose Hochstetler, 1, of Nappanee died at 2:50 a.m., Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Survivors include her parents, Wyman E. and Jolene (Schwartz) Hochstetler; a brother, Justin Lynn; and sisters, Marla Jo, LaVerda Kay, and Wanda Jean, all at home. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Saturday and all day Sunday at the family residence (10338 N 1000 W). Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Marvin Kemp residence. Burial will be in Cedar Road Amish Cemetery. Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.

While Housour's tale is relatively unknown to much of the community, the majority of adults in Nappanee will likely know a story or two about the ghosts of Coppes Commons. "They had quite a few horror stories there," Doug Rensberger, Nappanee, said. "A lot of them were true."

Workers of the Coppes Brothers and Zook Company told their children stories of men who lost their fingers and entire hands working in the factory, men killed at the factory and men who committed suicide in the parking lot. Of the stories, one reigns above all as the most true. As the story goes, a homeless man got off the train in Nappanee; he was looking for a warm place to sleep and found a place inside the factory for the night.

"There were sightings, like somebody was pushing a wood cart (on the upper floor)," Housour added. "My dad went upstairs once and couldn't find anything."
