Turnovers, record pass play sink Panthers
STKTE SnTLF.R COfOtESTONDtSI NAPPANEE - Once again, the NorfhWood Panthers managed to put up nearly the same amount of yards on offense as their opponent but three crucial turnovers, all ot which led to Concord touchdowns, combined with a Concord school record 95-yard touchdown pass added up to a 28-7 loss to the Minutemen. The defeat dropped North Wood to 0-3 on the season for the first time since 2006 while Concord improved to 3-0 and atop he Northern Lakes Conference (NLQ at 2-0. Concord struck first cm a warm, humid night at Andrews Field when Du Whan Alford picked off a Will Kirkwood pass on the Panthers' third {day from scrimmage arid returned it to the North Wood 15-yard line. Four plays later; quarterback Ryan McKibbin bolted in from three yards out to make it 6-0 Concern!, where he score remained after the PAT attempt bounced on he left upright. The Panthers promptly answered the score by putting together a fine 10-play drive but it died at he Minuteman 27-yard line on two straight incompletions. The Blade Crunch defense rose up and forced a Concord punt, however, and his time North Wood finished the deal, marching 95 yards in 16 plays with Kirkwood taking it he final yard for his first varsity touchdown run. Big plays in the drive included critical third down receptions by Blake Cleveland and Tyler Minnich and an 18-yard catch-and-nin by Dominic Miranda. Brendan Widner tacked cm he PAT and just like that, the Panthers had he lead at 7-6 with 7:20 to play in he half. After forcing another Concord punt, North Wood botched he snap on heir own punt and despite a heroic effort by punter Travis Bear, came up a yard short of the first down. Concord could not take advantage, however, and a 37-yard field goal attempt was way short and wide left, giving he Panthers he ball at heir own 20-yard line with less than three minutes to play in he half. Unfortunately, just two plays later; Concord linebacker Taylor Miller intercepted another Kirkwood pass at he line of scrimmage. This time, Concord capitalized on he miscue, as McKibbin found 6'5" senior tight end Franko House in he end zone for a 20-yard TD, hen hit Timothy Yoder for he two-point conversion to make it 14-7 Minutemen at he half. Concord got he ball to start he second half but was quickly forced to punt. Northwood advanced he football to midfield but after he drive stalled, quick-kicked on fourth-and-five and managed to pin he Minutemen at heir own six-yard line. Unfortunately for he home team, all hat did was set he stage for a 95-yard Mckibbin to Adam Ganders touchdown pass on he first play from scrimmage, he longest in Concord history, giving he visitors a 21-7 lead. It stayed that way into he fourth quarter, as the Panthers rolled up yardage by trampling he interior line of the Minutemen, only to see multiple drives foiled. Finally, with less than eight minutes remaining in he game, Concord's Miller picked off another pass, his second interception of he game, and returned it 10 yards to he Northwood 27. Seven plays later, Alford bulled into the end zone and he PAT luck was good, giving Concord a 28-7 lead and effectively ending any Panther hopes for a last-minute rally. The Panthers finisned with 167 yards on he ground, most of it directly up he middle jrvii I DmCrw i l -5 A-Jll——
