Panthers maul Concord for first Class 4A title By Steve Sittler Correspondent NAPPANEE The power running of senior Coy Brown and the dominating pressure of the relentless Black Crunch defense combined to propel the North Wood Panthers to a 26-13 victory over the Concord Minutemen in the Gass 4A sectional championship game at Andrews Field. The ry was the first-ever title in Gass 4A for the Panthers, avenged a 9-7 defeat to Concord earlier this season, and snapped a six-game losing streak to the Minutemen that dated to 2004. Robin Bilinksi took six students to the Indiana High School Press Association convention at Franklin College Oct. 20 and 21, where the Logue staff captured the Division One Hoosier Star Award, which places the book as the top Indiana high school yearbook for schools of less than 1,000 students. The North Wood Middle School eighth grade football team defeated the previously undefeated Discovery Aachers 14 to 6 to win the Big 11 Championship. Discovery was the defending champions from the seventh grade in 2011. ... This group of young men finish their middle school football careers with a record of 14 wins and two losses. Seventh grade wins Big 11 History was made Oct 4, 2011 as the seventh grade North Wood football team won the school's first ever Big 11 Championship. Construction there turned an alley into a dty roadway along the south side of Coppes Commons. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday, Dec. 9 to mark the re-opening of the Corridor which has been under construction since April.

Callander offers final gift to library, schools NAPPANEE Representatives of the Nappanee Public Library and Wa-Nee School system were pleasantly surprised recently by a generous donation from one of Nappanee's native sons. More than $196,000 was given to the two institutions as part of the estate of Richard G. Callander of Scottsdale, Ariz., who passed away in June of 2009.
