Comedian, speaker releases first book
By Lydia Beers Staff Writer TYNER Brett Eastbum first became interested in public speaking as a junior at John Glenn High School, when a guest speaker visited the school. "I had planned on sleeping, but he kept my attention," said Eastbum. "That's when I knew that (speaking) was the vehicle I wanted to use to get my message out." Eastbum was bom without arms or legs. Far from letting this hold him back, he has accomplished more in his life than many. He was hired by E.S.S.E.X. Educational Services, an Indianapolis-based company, while he was still in high school. A year later, he became the vice-president. He worked with E.S.S.E.X. for six years before starting his own company, No Boundaries, Inc. with his wife Chrisa in 2000. Now, Eastbum travels all over the world giving motivational speeches and performing comedy acts. He estimates that he does around 150 speaking engagements each year. Eastbum's latest venture is

DEAR EDITOR: IT'S THE REASON FOR THE SEASON Dear Editor I was recently informed that since Christmas day falls on Sunday this year a number of churches in Nappanee will not have a Sunday service, their reason being that they want to share time with their families. I could hardly believe what I was hearing! For years we constantly near complaints about the commercialization of Christmas. Helloooo! Did you ever stop and consider that you can bring your family to church on Christmas day to celebrate Jesus' birthday? I believe that this is what Christmas is about, after all. a book, published by Corby Books, released Dec. 5. "(The book) is basically my memoirs from the day I was bom up until now," said Eastbum. "It's a memoir/self help book." The bode is titled, "I'm Not Missing Anything," a phrase that reflects Eastbum's view on life. From the opening paragraph describing his earliest memories, Eastbum relates to the reader by sharing how he overcame common obstacles such as bedwetting and learning disabilities as well as his lack of limbs. Chrisa Eastbum said that Brett most frequently gets Questions about how he oes certain tasks without arms or legs. "He can do everything, but he just might do it differently," said Chrisa. "(The book) is (intended) to get the story out to places I can't go," said Brett, adding, "When I'm done with my shows people usually want more." In the next few weeks the couple will be doing book signings in the area To learn more or to order his book online, visit his website, www.bretteastbum.com.

half hours straight carrying festive people around to look at the colorful lights strewn throughout town. Humans and horses weren't the only mammals dressed in seasonal attire. Eight-year-old Mojo, chaperoned to the event by his owner Don Foster, did his best reindeer impersonation with a holiday sweater and antlers with bells. "He's good with the kids and likes to dress up and visit everyone," said Foster. The tree itself stands roughly 28 feet tall and was grown by the town for use for such an event. Volunteer firemen and town maintenance workers cut it down and stood it up for all to enjoy Nov. 28.
