Panthers, fall to Triton

Bv Steve Sittler Correspondent BOURBON Triton junior Clay Yeo poured in 32 points and a harassing defense forced North Wood into 20 turnovers as the Class 1A #1 ranked Trojans spoiled the season opener by defeating the Panthers 47-34. After a horrid first period in which North Wood failed to score a point and committed nine turnovers and seven fouls, the youthful Panthers played the Trojans evenly for the rest of the game but the hole was just too deep to overcome. Yeo got the game off to a rousing start for the homestanding Trojans by stealing the ball on North Wood's opening possession and taking it the length of the floor for a thunderous dunk, sending the Triton fans into a frenzy just 10 seconds into the game. He wasn't finished either as the 6'6" Valparaiso recruit scored 9 of Triton's first 11 I joints, as the Trojans jumped out to an 11-0 ead after one period. North Wood junior Tommy Klem finally stopped the bleeding by draining a three to open the second quarter, initiating a 6-0 run by the Panthers, but Yeo answered with a three of his own and Drew Mosson also canned a trey as the Trojans maintained a 24-16 advantage at the half. Klem's six points off the bench were critical to keeping North Wood alive, as were the rebounding of sophomore Will Stueve who also came off the pine to help rally the Panthers. Unfortunately, the rally was short-lived as North Wood managed just six points in the third quarter while the Trojans put up 11, increasing the margin to 33-22 with eight minutes remaining. Panther sophomore Zach Zurcher, in foul trouble early,
