Mary Alice Moore 1 Nov. 20, 2011 Mary Alice Moore, 93, Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa, formerly of Nappanee, died at 10:40 ajn. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011 at the nursing home. She is survived by daughters: Janet (Larry) Homan, Kay (Dallas) Yoder; and Vondel (Ron) Ritchie, all of Nappanee; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister; Florence "Midge" Slabaugh, Nappanee. Visitation took place from 2 to 8 p.m. Tueday, Nov. 22 at Thompson-Lengacher 4c Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and for one hour prior to fire 10:30 am Funeral Service Wednesday at the First Church of God in Nappanee. Burial followed in Stony Pont Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to First Church of God. Online condolences may be given to the family at www. tlyfh.com. NAPPANEE PUBLIC LIBRARY Annual book drive set When thinking holiday shopping includes a trip to the Nappanee Public Library, where everyone can give the gift of reading to local children in need. A selection of books for children of all ages will be on display and ready for donation through Dec. 14. Priced at a substantial discount, titles are given to Nappanee's Open Door food pantry for distribution with Christmas Baskets. New holiday hours at library The Nappanee Public Library will close at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23 and will be closed all day Thursday, Nov. 24, in observance of Thanksgiving. Regular hours will resume Friday, Nov. 25, with open hours from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Science club will meet Young scientists will cook up some fascinating experiments at this month's meeting of the Super Science Saturday Club at the Nappanee Public Library. Kids will meet at 10 a.m. Nov. 26, for "Microwave Science," where they'll discover what happens to several common household items when cooked in a microwave oven. This program for curious kids in grades first through fifth is led by Jim Myers and meets at the Nappanee Public Library monthly during the school year. Space is limited. Main St.) will continue its year-long series of fine art events with a juried exhibit of seasonal works by selected artists this holiday season. The show, entitled "Across the White" will be on exhibit through Friday, Jan. 6, during operating hours Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. Featured artists include Neil Boston, Marge Burkholder, Linda Elmore, William Jensen, Jeremy Miller, Diane Overmyer, Sherrie Styx and Susan Russell. Artists will exhibit paintings in a variety of media, pottery and jewelry in the Upper Level Gallery. Purple is Story Hour focus The color purple will be the highlight for Story Hour Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 for those children already registered to attend. A "purple" game will be played. Local author at Miller’s Meet author Alice Amick Shoemaker Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at Miller's Merry Manor Assisted Living. A slice of life, a photograph of a certain year in a small town in northern Indiana is captured in the book, "Annie's Summer: Coming of Age In Wakarusa" by Alice Amick Shoemaker. She has told the story of her eleventh year (slightly fictionalized) in Wakarusa Ind., coming of age among friends in this town of 1,000. It's the story of Annie and her friends Margaret and Bobbie. They're spending their time with the Little Orphan Annie decoder, with illegal "Ford coils" to send messages, with school pranks and with Annie's muchloved dog Sandy. Books will be available for purchase. Shoemaker is the daughter of the late Dr. C. L. Amick. This program i 6 sponsored by the Friends of the Wakarusa Library.
