Incumbent Todd Nunemaker (right) will retain his seat as representative of District 1 on the Nappanee City Council and Sam Beachy (left) will join the table as representative for District 3. Nunemaker beat his opponent Ruth Trinkley (D) with 71 percent (347) of the votes and Beachy won over his opponent, Ernest B. Livengood (D), with 76 percent (367) of the votes.

Devine FFA takes 2011 Delo competition crown SAN RAMON, Calif.— Chevron Lubricants, maker of the Delo® brand of technologically advanced engine oils, lubricants and coolants, today crowned Ryan Haass of the Devine FFA Champion of the 2011 Delo Tractor Restoration Competition for his restoration of a 1969 Case 530. The Devine, Texas contestant was one of 12 finalists, including North Wood FFA, invited to Indianapolis to participate in this year's competition. The national event, which delivers the most coveted title in teen tractor restoration, took place during the 84th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. As Champion, Ryan Haass of the Devine FFA receives a $5,000 prize. Eufaula FFA of Eufaula, Alabama was voted Reserve Champion for its restoration of a 1968 Massey Ferguson and received a prize of $3,000. Third place was awarded to Gonzales FFA of Gonzales, Texas for its restoration of a 1948 IH Farmall M, receiving $1,500. All remaining finalists received $250. "The Delo Tractor Restoration Competition has the ability to inspire kids to do things they may never have done, or even thought possible," said Channing Reeder, indirect channel marketing specialist, Lubricants Marketing Americas, Chevron Products Company. "The program encourages participants to interact with their teachers, advisors, family, friends and community and provides them with experiences they can draw upon in their future careers. Being involved with a program that inspires kids to ask questions, interact, learn, and in the end accomplish the incredible, is something Chevron and its Delo brand are very proud of. Although we can only crown one winner, we salute all the competitors for their incredible work."

NAPPANEE PUBLIC LIBRARY Annual book drive set When thinking holiday shopping includes a trip to the Nappanee Public Library, where everyone can give the gift of reading to local children in need. A selection of books for children of all ages will be on display and ready for donation through Dec. 14. Priced at a substantial discount, titles are given to Nappanee's Open Door food pantry for distribution with Christmas Baskets. Lego Club to meet "Food Favorites" is the theme at the next meeting of the Nappanee Public Library's Lego Club Nov. 17. Kids ages five and older are invited to take part in aee-group-appropriate challenges and free building time on the third Thursday of every month at the Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m. \ No registration is required, and parents are welcome to stay and participate. Children younger than eight must be accompanied by an adult, and all materials will be provided. New holiday hours at library The Nappanee Public Library will close at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23 and will be closed all day Thursday, Nov. 24, in observance of Thanksgiving. The Wakarusa Library will be closed Nov. 24 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Green is the word for Story Hour Green is the color of grass and frogs. Children attending Story Hour Nov. 21 and Nov. 22 at 10:15 a.m. will hear stories that highlight the color green. Participants will create a sheep hat. Children must be registered to attend. Local author at Miller’s Meet author Alice Amick Shoemaker Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at Miller's Merry Manor Assisted Living. A slice of life, a photograph of a certain year in a small town in northern Indiana is captured in the book, "Annie's Summer: Coming of Age In Wakarusa" by Alice Amick Shoemaker. She has told the story of her eleventh year (slightly fictionalized) in Wakarusa Ind., coming of age among friends in this town of 1,000. It's the story of Annie and her friends Margaret and Bobbie. They're spending their time with the Little Orphan Annie decoder, with illegal "Ford coils" to send messages, with school pranks and with Annie's much-loved dog Sandy. Books will be available for purchase. Shoemaker is the daughter of the late Dr. C. L. Amick. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Wakarusa Library. Memorial donations given "Secret Journeys of a Lifetime" by National Geographic, "Deadline Artists," and "Moonwalking with Einstein" by Joshua Foer are given in memory of Wayne Shaum, by Harold L. Becher and Rachel Hartman. Toys for Tots donations accepted A Toys for Tots box has been placed in the entryway of the library. New unwrapped toys are wanted for children of all ages especially teens. The box will be available until Dec. 7. The gifts will be distributed through the Family Christian Development Center.
