One flown to hospital after accident on U.S. 6 NAPPANEE A Marion, Ind. man was flown by Medflight to South Bend's Memorial Hospital the morning of Aug. 11 after being hit head-on by a semi. The semi driver, Cirilo C. Corral, Chicago, 111., was driving at 45 to 50 miles per hour, west on US 6 just east of C.R. 15 at 934 a.m. when the vehicle in front of him stopped suddenly, about one-and-a-half car-lengths in front of Him because of other vehicles stopped at the intersection. Corral, 60, said he didn't want to hit the vehicle in front of him so swerved into oncoming traffic, resulting in him hitting Jay Strider, 48, in his Ford Taurus LX. Strider reportedly had a deep laceration to his head. Though no dtations were issued, the Crash Investigation Team of the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department is investigating the crash.

Jeremy Joseph Graber Aug. 6, 2011 NAPPANEE Jeremy Joseph Graber, 33, of 13 Meadows, Nappanee, died at 3:42 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne following an accident in Elkhart County. He is survived by his wife, Heidi; daughter, Emma Kay Graber; son, Dalton Joseph Graber; stepdaughters: Merisa Larrison, Melodie Jones, and Regan Dailey; stepson. Chase Jones; his mother and stepfather; Tamra and (Randy Harris) Leichtman; grandparents, David and Patricia Leichtman; grandmother; Joan McGinnis; and sister, Jamie Graber. Visitation was 12 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Nappanee Missionary Church Chapel, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, assisted the family with arrangements.

Membership with the United States Chess Federation is mandatory to compete in this event. For non-members and first time chess competitors the fee to join is just $7 fa those younger than 25 years of age, and sl2 for 25 and older. Registration fees for adults and senior 70+ divisions are $25. The student division K-12 is $lO. Students can register as an adult fra $25. There is a $5 entrance fee fa visitors, which indudes Tate's speech, chess tournament and trophy presentations.
