April 24, 2011 CULVER Hershel D. 'Pete' Bickel, 84, of Culver died at 2:50 p.m. April 24, 2011 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth. He is survived by sons: Richard Bided of Knox, Michael (Bitha) Bickel of Knox, James (Nancy) Bickel of Rochester; and Robert Bickel of Nappanee; and daughters: Betty (Harry) Busam of Plymouth, Elsie (Dale) Morgan of Okomogee, CHka. and Patty (Art) Justice of Owasso, CHka.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Visitation took place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 28 at Odom Funeral Home, Culver. Funeral services took place at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial followed at Burr Oak Cemetery, Culver. Memorials may be made to foe Diabetes Association or foe Alzheimer's Association. Mattie Schmucker April 29, 2011 NAPPANEE Mattie Schmucker, 88, of LuAnn Nursing Home, Nappanee, died at 7:05 p.m., Friday, April 30,2011 at Elkhart General Hospital. She is survived by sons: Robert (Freida) Schmucker of Milford, Harley W. (Linda) Schmucker of Anderson, Jerry L. (Sarah E.) Schmucker of Nappanee, and Marvin R. (Cathy) Schmucker of Peru; daughters, Joan (Mervin J.) Weaver and Rosetta (Devon) Troyer, both of Nappanee; 41 grandchildren; and 91 great-grandchildren. Visitation took place Saturday, April 30 at Jerry Schmucker's residence, 6044 W 1350 N. Funeral services took place at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 2 at foe Schmucker's. Burial followed in West Union Cemetery. Thompson-Lengacher k Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, assisted with arrangements. Local Humane Society in need of dog food BRISTOL The Humane Sorietyof Elkhart County is in need of dry dog food due to a small water leak at foe facility that knocked out three quarters of foe shelters supply. The organization is asking foe community for help to restock. In addition, foe Humane Society has had to halt its Pet Food Assistance program. The Pet Food Assistance program is available to only Elkhart county residents that need help feeding their pets. There is an immediate application process that can be done in person at foe Humane Society. Just this year, foe Pet Food Assistance program has helped more than 200 residents that have faced financial hardships. All types of brands of dog food are accepted, however, foe shelter is asking for Purina Dog Chow to help keep a brand consistency at foe shelter. Residents are asked to drop off items to foe Humane Society of Elkhart County, 54687 CR 19, Bristol, IN, 46507 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
