Conference Champs Photos submitted The North Wood Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball B-teams won Big 11 Conference championships this season. The eighth-grade includes LaNecia Sharp Taylor, Ashley Maust, Karen Holmes, Shy la Southern, Yadira Figueroa, Jade Murphy, Paige Hershberger, Abbey McNeil, Brianna Tuttle, Rylee Beck and coach Huff. The seventh-grade team includes Jordanne Stichter, Haley Bowling, Rylee Carothers, Regan Beck, Amanda Heckaman, Heather Bartley, Abby Adams, Gabby Birr, Laura Brubaker, Lainie Holland and coach Gerig.
North Wood reaches state competition
ELKHART The Regional Skills USA competition was held Feb. 12 at die Hammond Area Career Center and the Elkhart Area Career Center. Students tested their technical and leadership skills and competed for a chance to qualify for the state contest to be held April 15-16 in Indianapolis. The Elkhart Area Career Center has a total of 364 Skills USA members this school year. Of that number; 98 placed in the top four in their regional contest and are now qualified for state competition. Skills USA is a national organization serving high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations. It is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure a skilled American workforce by providing quality educational experiences and sound leadersnip development It emphasizes strong work ethics, pride in foe dignity of work, and foe importance of community service. More than 250,000 students join Skills USA annually,

Case Notes Though a Bristol woman has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run crash March 4 that killed 16-year-old Alan Hess, the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department is con : tinuing its work on the case. Certain aspects of the investigation have come to light with the filing of probable cause paperwork by officers and prosecutors. Sheriff's department detectives have not yet closed the case, as they continue to look at the circumstances leading up to and occurring after the crash. Yvonne Addington, 48, faces a preliminary felony charges of leaving the scene of a fatal crash and failure to report the_ incident to authorities.
