WAKARUSA - More titan 1,000 area school children and adult and senior groups enjoyed the 42nd annual Wakarusa Maple Syrup Educational Days this week. "We have groups from 12 different towns in two states attending this year" Wakarusa Chamber of Commerce Secretary Deb Shively said. Groups came from Stevensville, Constantine and Buchanan in Michigan, and Goshen, Elkhart, South Bend, Bristol, Mishawaka, Nappanee, Warsaw, Fort Wayne and Wakarusa in Indiana. The groups experienced life as it used to be, as an illustrator brought each of the Wakarusa Historical Museum buildings to life. A one-room school house, fire house and blacksmith shop were part of 10 buildings in all. Groups also toured a working sugar camp and strolled through historic downtown Wakarusa, where they enjoyed a free bag of kettle-popped popcorn and visited the Hardware and Dime Store. A new popcorn shed has been added to Educational Days and the Maple Syrup Festival. Built by the North Wood High School buildings trades class, the shed allows plenty of room for the volunteer popcorn baggers to keep the free treat rolling out the door. The Wakarusa Maple Syrup Festival will be April 15-16. Registration is now open for the Wakarusa's Got
