Donkey B-ball slated Oct 19 The Donkey Basketball Show, featuring teams as well as rides for the children, is Oct. 19 at the North Wood High School gym, where doors will open at 6 p.m. Cost is $6 in advance, or $8 at the door for this Dollars For Scholars fundraiser. Tickets and T-shirts, at $lO each, may be purchased at any Wa-Nee school now through Oct. 15. Tickets also will be available for 50/50, and half-court shot. Kids can even ride a donkey for a $1 donation. Schools change meeting locations The Wa-Nee Community Schools meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, has been moved from NorthWood Middle School to the Wa-Nee administration office. Also, the Monday, Nov. 8 meeting at 6:30 p.m. has been moved from the administration building to North Wood Middle School. Public safety meeting rescheduled The Oct. 12 meeting of the Elkhart County Public Safety Communications Commission has been rescheduled to 8 a.m., Oct. 26, at the Elkhart County Public Safety Communications Conference Room. Fall Sports Night at NWMS tonight North Wood Middle School Student Council will host a fall sports night to benefit Family Christian Development Center from 3 to 5:30 p.m. in the school gym tonight. The event kicks off the student council's annual canned food drive. Admission to the event is 10 cans/$3 per person at the door. Redevelopment meets in executive session Oct. 19 The Nappanee Redevelopment Commission will meet in executive session at 6 p.m., Oct. 19, at the Nappanee Center, 302 W. Market St., to discuss purchase of property. Body shaping class planned at middle school Fred Myers will be teaching a body shaping fall session at the North Wood Middle School weight room from 6 to 7:15 p.m. ■Mondays and Thursdays, from Oct. 25 through Dec. 13. Care and Share Auction is Saturday

By Anita Munson Editor The third annual Care And Share Benefit Auction, from 10 a.m. until around 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, offers something for everyone in the community. Held at the Borkholder Dutch Village Auction Arena, 700 N. Tomahawk Trail, just north of U.S. 6 on Nappanee's west side, the auction features items for both daily use and sheer indulgence, and 100 percent of the proceeds will be directed to Amish Parochial Opportunity Schools, Family Christian Development Center, and Open Door, all not-for-profit organizations helping people in our area. Penny Huffer, Keyßank manager in Nappanee, heads up the committee of volunteers who are working feverishly to collect all the donated items for the sale that originated followed the devastating tornadoes three years ago. Each year, the auction reminds the community of how all people came together from all walks in life, all faiths, to help their neighbors in time of need. The volunteers, none of whom receive payment for their efforts, call themselves the "Concerned

Students and parents were also informed at the college information parent meeting Sept. 30. The usual $45 admission fee was waived for the program, and qualified students were awarded SSOO scholarships, with more than $9,000 awarded to the North Wood students admitted via the program. Way to go, North Wood guidance counselors and teachers who also reminded students of the program through daily announcements and via the in-school monitors. Ancon using new materials Ancon Construction Co., Goshen, announced it began using insulated concrete forms on a project for Community Wide Federal Credit Union, South Bend, last week. Better known as IFCs, the forms are a lightweight rigid foam insulating block that forms a system for steel-reinforced concrete walls above and below grade. Ancon officials said in a written release that the IFC wall system is energy efficient, structurally tough, sustainable, and can be constructed quickly and with cost effectiveness. Essenahaus to host toy show after the holidays ~ The second floor of Das Dutchman Essenhaus will be the site of an all-inclusive toy show from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, a way for all of us grown-ups to extend our holiday cheer. The well-known restaurant is located at 240 U.S. 20, Middlebury. Collections of die-cast toys, dolls, vintage games, trucks, and tractors will be featured.
