He had not even been to the Walnut Valley Festival before winning this year's national championship, but it has opened another venue for him, prompting Yoder to plan to participate in folk festival circuits, dulcimer festivals, and other events. The championship event he won boasted more than 10,000 in attendance, organizers said, proving there's a good market for Yoder's talent and his goal of providing sound entertainment to large crowds.. His love of the hammered dulcimer evolved to its current state some three years ago, when he decided to perform professionally. "I didn't want to turn 50 and say, 'I wish I'd tried that,"' he said of the decision to put food on the table while playing professionally. "I told myself that if this pans out and I can do it for 10 years, it might be the best 10 years of my life. I love performing." Growing up with rock and roll as the background to his formative years, Yoder admits he loves "the big productions." He says he can see himself on a stage playing his dulcimer with "big sound" accompanying him. He hopes for national exposure, and would love a television special. Supports can help make his dream come true with a visit to his website, www.tedyoder.com, where his hammer dulcimer music CDs including the original compositions performed at the national championship can be purchased. To book Yoder for a wedding, a corporate or organization event, or other special gathering, he can be reached at 574-834-4985. Yoder's passion for his music is obvious, as well as infectious. Visitors to the web site can see that on the home page, where "Live life now" is the overwhelming theme. 1 His opening statement says it all: "The goal of my music is to take the breath of everyday and sing it through the hammer dulcimer."
