Mayor Larry Thompson told us last week that he hopes this first-time event to help fill the pantries at Family Christian Development Center and Open Door .will especially touch the hearts of those of us who are more fortunate. Nappanee city workers are wholeheartedly embracing the program, and will walk, drive, ride alongside police, fire, EMS and others to collect, rain or shine. Remember to tell your friends and neighbors about the unusual timing of the emergency siren so they won't be alarmed, and tell them why it will be toning: To sipnal the start of this uniqu. "Rescue Harvest" program for which we can all be truly grateful. Quilt Garden Committee needs assistance The Quilt Garden location will change in 2011, from McCormick Creek Golf Course, to outside the Nappanee Center in downtown Nappanee. Monetary contributions, and in-kind donations including top soil, limestone, pea gravel, fertilizer and chemicals, irrigation pipe, soil testings, and use of a Bobcat and mini excavator are needed. The American Business Association recently named the Amish Country Quilt Gardens Tour one of the Top 100 Events in America, and Nappanee has two of the 17 Quilt Gardens located along the nationally recognized Heritage Trail. Amish Acres maintains its own Quilt Garden, and a volunteer committee maintains the second site. Stephanie Topping is chairperson for the volunteer committee. McGinnis-Pflugshaupt Mary F. Pflugshaupt, Plymouth, and Daniel Hoyt McGinnis, Danville, lowa, announce their engagement to be married Sept. 24, 20H in Valparaiso. Tire bride-to-be is the daughter of Dennis Pflugshaupt and Betty and Doug Whiteman and is a 1998 graduate of John Glenn High School. She is a 2004 graduate of Indiana State University (with a MA) in 2004 and a 2006 graduate of Roosevelt University (with a MA) and is a member of the Sigma Tau Delta. She is presently employed with Columbia College, Chicago,. lU. The groom-elect is the son of Bill and Caralee McGinnis, Carthage, 111. Service Center on Grape Road, Mishawaka, is now open for business. Built by Ancon Construction of Goshen, the new service center is approximately 15,000 square feet and has 21 stalls with 18 lifts. Phase two construction a two story show room, customer service center, consultation areas, and employee offices will begin following demolition of the existing show room, under way now. Phase two is expected to be finished the first week of January. Dutchmen RV rolls «Ut new products RV, with plants in Goshen and Middlebury, rolled out its 2011 product line-up at a show aimed at 250 U.S. and Canadian dealerships. NOTICE TO TAXPAYER ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION AND PROJECT HEARING Pursuant to Indiana Code 20-26-7-37, notice is hereby given to the taxpayers of the school corporation known as Wa-Nee Community Schools (the "School Corporation") that the Board of School Trustees (the "Board") of said. School Corporation will meet at the usual meeting place of said Board at 1300 N. Main Street, City of Nappanee, Indiana, at the hour of 06:30 p.m. (Local Time) on October 25, 2010, to discuss and hear objections and support regarding the proposed renovations of and improvements to Woodview Elementary School, Wakarusa Elementary School, and North Wood High School, and to consider the following additional appropriation of the bonds which the Board has determined to issue. The Board considers such additional appropriation, necessary to meet the extraordinary emergency existing at this time: An appropriation in the amount of $1,950,000 on account of the renovation of and improvements to Woodview Elementary School, Wakarusa Elementary School, and North Wood High School in said School Corporation, including the incidental Expenses necessary to be incurred in connection with said building project and the issuance ol bonds on account thereof. The funds to meet such additional appropriation are to be provided by the issuance and sale ol bonds by the School Corporation. The foregoing appropriation is in addition to all appropriations provided for in the existing budget and tax levy, and an extraordinary emergency for such appropriation exists by reason of the inadequacy of the present buddings to provide necessary school facilities in the School Corporation. Alton Gringerich, 59, of Goshen escaped injury, after his home-built plane crashed into afield Oct. 1. Nappanee, Indiana State Police from the Bremen Post, emergency rescue workers, and the Federal Aviation Commission were called shortly after the incident at 1:40 p.m., Oct. 1. Gingerich's plane flipped onto its top, he told police, after he experienced engine

trouble upon take-off from the Nappanee Municipal Airport and was unable to return to the airport to land. The landing came in a field near the intersection of U.S. 6 and County Road 11. Gingerich, who was piloting the plane, was alone and was able to exit the plane without injury, and the FAA is investigating events leading up to the crash, an ISP spokesman said.
