Josh Hunting rushed for a team-leading 56 yards, highlighted by a 28-vard touchdown run. Also for North Wood s offense, Derek Weldv caught a 30-yard pass, Scott Kem carried for 23 yards, and Travis Bear and Dominic Miranda each picked up 21 yards on the ground. Weldy powered the Panthers' defense with nine tackles. Gage Hochstetler provided seven stops, with Kem and Miranda adding three tackles apiece. John Young squeaks past John Young slipped past North Wood's eighth grade B team Thursday, 27-26. Spencer Wilson rushed for 174 yards on five carries and scored two touchdowns to

lead North Wood, followed by Zach Schwartz, who rushed for 21 yards and scored a touchdown. Schwartz also ran the ball in for an extra point. Trent Sellers had a big game as well with a 46-yard touchdown catch and 18 rushing yards. Also for the Panthers, Josh Chupp caught a 23-yard pass; Devyn Maugel rushed for 17 yards; Cole Lozano rushed for 13 yards; and Steven Hettler caught a 12-yard pass. Leading tacklers for North Wood were: Mark Ingle seven; and Ryan Menzie, Trent Sellers, Maugel, Alex Carder, and Spencer Abel, ail with three. NW 7th pummels North Side The North Wood seventh grade football team came roaring back from an early 6-0 deficit to defeat the Huskies of Elkhart North Side convincingly, 48-6 last Tuesday. The 48 points are a season high for the Panthers who pushed their record to 5-0. Tanner Cleveland and Zach Chupp each tallied two touchdowns with Cleveland scoring on a 34-yard run and a 67-yard kickoff return to start the second half. Chupp's scores were on receptions of 12 and 52 yards from Braxton Linville. Clayton Sheets also caught a touchdown pass from Linville, good for 45 yards. Linville completed five passes for 134 yards. Alec McCuen scored on a 3-yard run and Linville also had a 26yard touchdown run. After giving up the early score, the North Wood defense went to work and held North Side scoreless the rest of the game. Leading the defense were Jeremiah Hilty with eight hits and a fumble recovery. Dakirvon Fox had seven tackles, Jalynn Borkholder and Nick Dillon six each, and Cleveland 5. Lincoln nips North Wood Bth North Wood came up just short in a 16-14 eighth grade football loss to Lincoln last Saturday. Travis Bear returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, rushed for 28 yards, and also connected with Kirk, Eby for a 20-yard touchdown pass. Also for the Panthers, Domiruc Miranda rushed for 20 yards, Scott Kem picked up 19 yards on the ground, and Eby caught a pair of passes for 24 yards. Leading North Wood tacklers were Kem six. Bear five, and Josh Hunting, Derek Weldy, and Gage Hochstetler, all with three. NW 7th upends Lincoln The North Wood seventh grade football team defeated Lincoln last Saturday, 38-6 to run its record to 4-0. Nick Dillon led the North Wood defense from his linebacker spot with 10 tackles, playing most of the game in the Lincoln backfield. Clayton Sheets and Jalynn Borkholder added five hits each, and Jeremiah Hilty added four. Cleveland had a fumble recovery and Mario Rodriguez an interception. JUNIOR HIGH CROSS COUNTRY Runners pile up bests The North Wood Middle School cross country teams competed against Penn Discovery and Goshen Middle School on a wet and breezy afternoon Thursday. Fourteen of the 19 girls who ran finished with their best time of the year. McKayla Fielstra led the way for the Lady Panthers with a 12th-place finish out of 110 total runners. Her time was 13:39. Less than 1 second behind Fielstra was Kay lee Haynes who finished 13th overall. Also scoring for the girls were Gabby Birr, 21st in 14:15; McKenzie Jarell, 24th in 14:32; and Jamie Mcßride, 35th in 14:57. Most improved for the girls was Vanessa Lopez who shaved 1:37 off her previous best time. For the boys team Garrett Flowers led the wav with a sixth-place finish out of 94 runners. His time was 12:04. Also placing in the top 20 for the boys were Teagan Stutsman, eighth in 12:21; Hayden Klotz, 10th in 12:24; Caleb Darr, 15th in 12:53; and Nick Newcomer, 20th in 13:01. Most improved on the boys team was Dylan Simon who improved upon his previous best time by 2:17. Twenty-three of the 24 boys who ran for North Wood had their best time of the year. Panthers run at TV Invite The North Wood Middle School cross country teams competed in the Tippecanoe Valley Invitational last Saturday. The girls team finished fifth out of 12 schools. McKayla Fielstra led the wav with an 18th-place finish out of 114 runners. Her time was 14:32. Also scoring for North Wood were Kavlee Haynes, 25th in 14:53; McKenzie Jarrell, 28th in 15:05; Gabby Birr, 33rd in 15:11 and Brianna Sanders, 36th in 15:35, Most improved for the girls team was Blaec Kunze who took 58 seconds off her previous best time.
