choir helps premiere work of local composer ‘Requiem for the Innocent debut is Oct. 2 Goshen's Shout for Joy Children's Choir will be featured in the premiere of a new musical work by local composer Dr. Jorge Muniz. "Requiem for the Innocent" is a newly-com-missioned musical work that is written for full orchestra and more than 200 voices, with texts in English, Spanish, Latin, Hebrew and Arabic. It was composed "as a multi-faith prayer for society and for all victims of terrorist acts in recent years." The debut performance will be Saturday, Oct. 2, at 8 p.m. at the Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend. Shout for Joy, a Goshen College Community School of the Arts choir of area students in grades 6 through 8 directed by Sandy Hill, will be the featured children's choir participating in the new composition's debut, along with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, South Bend Chamber Singers, Indiana University South Bend Chorale and the University of Notre Dame Glee Club. Baritone Ivan Griffin is the featured soloist. Muniz is a noted SpanishAmerican composer, and assistant professor of composition and theory at the Indiana University South Bend's Ernestine M. Radin School of the Arts, where he also serves as coordinator of music and director of graduate studies. Muniz is also adjunct composition instructor at Goshen College. He earned his doctorate in composition at the Manhattan School of Music under principal teacher Richard Danielpour. For tickets to the concert, call 574-235-9190, or visit www.morriscenter.org or www.southbendsymphony.org.
