By Steve Sttub Correspondent ig&? '■•■ • ». > i-’U?- /• * -v ;• ~ CULVER Boy what a difference a week makes. After struggling on offense against Jimtown in their opening contest, the NorfoWood Panthers football team bounced back in a big way, rolling up nearly 400 yards of total offense in a pasting of Culver Military Academy at Oliver Field on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee Friday. Junior quarterback Zac Coleman led the way for North Wood, rushing for 137 yards and a touchdown and throwing for 119 yards and two more TDs as the Panthers defeated the Eagles for the fifth straight time. North Wood served notice that dungs were going to be different this week from the very start, taking the opening kickoff and driving 57 yards in eight plays, culminated by a 25-yard TD scamper by Coleman. Culver had a chance to stop the drive after three plays but committed a foolish offsides penalty as the Panthers were preparing to punt, keeping the drive alive for North Wood. The PAT attempt was no good and North Wood led 6-0. The lead lasted just 20 seconds, however, as Eagles quarterback Tom O'Neill found a streaking Juwan Brescacin on the first play from scrimmage and the 6-foot-6 senior took the pigskin 74 yards to paydirt. O'Neill tacked on foe PAT and Culver led 7-6 just five minutes into foe game. North Wood then mounted another long drive, almost all of it on foe ground, but stalled deep in Eagle territory thanks primarily to three consecutive false start penalties. Sophomore kicker Brendan Widener trotted out for a 31yard field goal attempt but the kick was just wide to foe right, leaving Culver still in the lead at 7-6. As the second quarter began, North Wood forced a forde-and-out but foe versatile O'Neill uncorked a mammoth 52-yard punt that foe Eagles downed on the Panther 1-yard line. Coleman promptly ripped off an 8-yard run to get his team out of trouble, and foe Panthers ran off 13 consecutive running plays, moving the ball to the Culver 29yard line. Facing a third-and -12 situation, Coleman dropped back to pass but was hit as he threw and foe
