A lawn can actually experience overwatering or improper watering that could end up causing more harm Burn good. But when the conditions are right, a lawn could benefit greatly horn watering. A lawn stows water stress by turning slightly blue-green in color with footprints remaining in the grass after it has been walked on. This is when irrigation for the lawn is necessary. Deep watering helps the roots of your grass remain dleep, which keeps die grass healthier. It is important to consider factors such as rainfall and soil type when deciding tow much water to apply to your lawn. The best time to water die lawn is in die morning sometime between 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. when wind and evaporation are less of an issue. However, water-

ing the lawn between 8 ajn. and noon is also good practice. Evaporation becomes more common as die day progresses. If grass experiences water stress and has not been watered in a long period of time, it may go dormant If this occurs, it will look brown and dead but is most likely just conserving water for the root System. Watering the grass at this point is still beneficial, even if die grass does not turn green right away. It should eventually recover. Our lawns are enjoyed in so many ways. For more information on irrigating die lawn, you can visit die web at www.agry.purdue.edu/turf/pubß/ay--7.pdf. You can also contact your Elkhart County Extension office for more information.
