Judy Foster, a foster mother at the library with several of her children, called the event a "much appreciated" service. Students like Taya Bonee, who'll be a seventh-grader at North Wood Middle School, was pleased to find pencils among the many supplies free for the taking. "1 really need them for tests," she said. "This is the third year we've done it," Dianne Debelak, spokeswoman for the Nappanee Area Chamber of Commerce, a sponsor of the program, said. "It's probably one of the most worthwhile projects we do." You deserve a factual look at... The Deadly Threat of i Nuclear-Armed Iran What can the wfirkh wtiat can the VSA* what cm brad abMit It? Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has declared publicly - not once, but repeatedly - that Israel must be “wiped off the map.” That effort, the destruction of Israel, seems to be the main goal of Iranian policy. When Iranian missiles are paraded through the streets of Tehran, the destination “to Jerusalem’ is clearly stenciled on them.
What arc the fads? A death wish for Israel. Ahmadinejad and the ayatollah who is the “supreme leader” haw publicly mused that one or two nuclear bombs would obliterate Israel, but that, though it would cause devastating damage and millions of casualties, Iran would surviw Israel's retaliatory attack. Iran is a huge country, with about 60 million inhabitants, so they are probably correct. And who can doubt that those religious fanatics would not hesitate to allow tire destruction of much
of their country and to sacrifice a third or ewn one-half of their population in order to eliminate the hated Jewish state. When our country was entangled with the Soviet Union in the bitter 40year long “cold war.’ with both sides having sufficient nuclear weapons to destroy the opponent's country and its people, things were kept in place by
MAD - Mutually Assured Destruction. Howewr “WST the leaders of the Soviet Union (the “Evil Empire”) may haw been, there was one great consolation and assurance They were not crazy. But the Iranians and other Muslims are crazies, as we understand the concept. Because they take instructions directly from Allah, who tells them to toll the Jews and other infidels, Whatever the cost Israel has no problem with Iran. They share no borders and haw no territorial dispute. In fact they face common Arab enemies and should be natural allies, as they indent were under the Shah. Iran's death wish for Israel is based entirely on religious fanaticism. In contrast ewn to the intractable North Koreans, the determination of the Iranians is immutable. It cannot be changed by persuasion, by diplomacy, by sanctions or by threats. Once Iran b in possession of nuclear weapons, it will not only be a deadly danger to Israel, but to all of the Middle East aid to virtually all of Europe. The flow of oil from the Middle East, die lifeblood of the industrialized world, would be totally under its control and so would be the economies of all nations of the world, very much including the United Stales. What is to be done? In 1981, then prime minister of Israel Menachem Begin, being aware of Iraq's nuclear ambitions and looming realization of those ambitions, decided that its nuclear reactor at Osiraq had to be destroyed. Take extra precaiition lor back to school
INDIANAPOLIS-About 756*000 children are expected to ride Hoosier school buses this school year. As students return to school from summer vacation, the Indiana Department of Transportation and the .Indiana Department of Homeland Security remind drivers to take extra precautions to avoid incidents. "Whenever possible, parents or guardians should wait for the school bus with young children," says IDHS Chief of Staff Mike Garvey. "Many children board school buses in the predawn hours and it can be difficult for drivers to see them in the dark. Adequate supervision at bus stops is important to help keep children safe." Garvey is an EMS professional with 33 years of experience. IDHS provides training and credentialing to all EMS personnel throughout the state, and certifies training institutions and all emergency medical transports. An average of 26 children

There b reason to beliew that the people of Iran, especially the young people, oppose the oppressiw and theocratic regime of their country and are hostile to the mullahs who control everything. But the government has the tools of power firmly in its hands. It controls the instruments of coercion - it can tall people and it controls the oil money. While it would be most desirable and in the interest of the world to be able to foment an overthrow of the Iranian regime, that b an unrealbdc and unattainable prospect Regrettably, there b only one solution to the terrible dilemma conWrting the world, the unacceptable danger of a nuclear-armed Iraalhe terror, the destruction and the 60 miflion dead of World Wto Q could have been prevented at sewral tiroes dura* the Nazi regime. But the Allied powers, under the leadership of Britain's prime minuter Neville Chamberlain, opted for appeasement and for “peace in our time." Wt cannot afford to make that same mistake again. year while getting on or off a school bus, or while waiting at the bus stop. Last year in Indiana, three children were killed in school transportation related incidents. Important safety tips for drivers: Back out carefully: Watch for children walking to the bus stop when backing out of a driveway. Slow down: Watch for children walking in the street and playing or congrlgating near bus stops. Some children may be waiting at bus stops in die early morning hours. This will make them more difficult to see, and extra caution should be taken. Be alert: Children arriving late for the bus may dart into the street without look-
Kyle Troyer, Holly Wilson, and Tyler Yanson. Reactions from the students when Cramer called them about the performance were mixed, he said. "Some were super-excited, and some said, 'Who's Foreigner?' Then, when I hummed a little of the songs, they knew." Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is" hit number one on the charts in the mid-1980s, a fact most of the students' parents knew. "There were a lot of excited parents," Cramer noted. The band's classic rock tour this summer will feature hits and showcase new songs from its first album of new material in more than 15 years. * "We would have done this

ingfortraffte^^^^^; Obey the laws: Yellow flashing lights on a bus mean motorists should slow down and prepare to stop. Red flashing lights mean motorists must stop their cars and wait until the red lights stop flashing, the extended stop sign is withdrawn and the bus starts moving again. Unless there is a median, oncoming traffic must also stop. Safety for kids when riding the bus: Get to the bus stop at least five minutes early. When the bus approaches, have children stand at least three giant steps away from the curb. If a bus stop is located on a busy road or intersection, an adult should be present to supervise chil-
