Marijuana growers typically grow their plants hidden among the crops of unsuspecting farmers and are often active during late night and early morning hours. Citizens are encouraged to report suspected illegal drug activity by calling the Indiana State Police Marijuana Tip Line at 888-873-1694. Arrest stems from undercover work The Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section worked in conjunction with the Elkhart County Interdiction and Covert Enforcement Team (1.C.E.) June 29 to remove an estimated $9,000 in cocaine from foe streets. ; The two agencies conducted a joint month-long investigation into Juan D. Garcia, 29, that involved several undercover purchases and covered Elkhart, St. Joseph, and LaPorte counties. The investigation led to the issuance of a search warrant for Garcia's apartment at 3006 Rue Renoir, #lO5, in the Park Jefferson Apartment complex in South Bend. ISP Senior Trooper Mick Dockery and his K-9 partner Hondo, who are currently assigned to the I.C.E. team, assisted in searching Garcia's residence. Dockery had Hondo conduct a sniff of the apartment and Hondo made a positive alert on the areas that contained the drugs and cash that was discovered. Officers also confiscated approximately 2,000 dollars, scales, baggies, multiple ID cards, and two vehicles. Garcia was arrested and taken to the Elkhart County Jail to face the prior charges of dealing cocaine that were a result of the undercover buys that had been made in Elkhart County. Garcia will later face the charges of possession and dealing cocaine in St. Joseph County. Fort Harrison State Park hosts Vietnam re-enactment July 17,18 INDIANAPOLIS The Museum of 20th Century Warfare and Fort Harrison State Park will team up to host the Vietnam Experience Re-enactment July 17 and 18. The program will recreate American units who will be opposing Vietcong forces in a Vietnamese-style public battle. The encampments and tactical battles tell the stories of the veterans who passed through Fort Harrison when it was a military reservation. Dressed in authentic or recreated uniforms the unpaid hobbyist re-enactors use Vietnam-era equipment and weapons to drill, exercise and simulate combat situations. The soldiers will "fight" during the re-enactment much as soldiers did during foe Vietnam War. Fort Harrison State Park was an active military base from 1906 until 1996. It has also served as an induction center during the Vietnam War and was home to several base hospitals, support schools and the Finance Center. Fort Harrison was decommissioned and turned over to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources in 1996. Both the re-enactment and the military camp are open to the public, regardless of the weather. The public tactical will begin at the historic Walnut Plantation at 2 p.m., with a weapons demonstration at 2 p.m., July 18. There is no cost for foe program, but the normal $5 weekend in-state and $7 out-of-state gate fee applies. For more information, contact the park office at 317-591-0122.
