Mr. Pippen recently returned from taking a course at Bethany Bible School in Chicago. 75 Years Ago July 3,1935 Merrill Blosser, well known Nappanee artist of "Freckles" who now makes his home in the suburbs of Los Angeles, California, and his wife visited at the home of his youth in this city. He was bom in 1892 in Nappanee. As a kid he loved to draw and when he was about to finish grade school a picture he drew of his school surroundings supposedly did dishonor to die sdiool and he was expelled. A year was then spent in a church college, following his taking a course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago in 1915. The Blossers spent a few days here with Mrs. Elias Blosser, his mother, at West Market Street just a block west of the public square. 50 Years Ago July 7,1960 "Girl Crazy" the hit musical, will open Nappanee Civic Theater's 3rd season in September. The women's stories were collected during the 2000 to 2006 Mennonite Women of Color Oral History Project conducted by Pat McFarlane, associate professor of communication at Goshen College, and Linda Christophel, a school social worker in'Michigan. Council on Aging plans ‘Fit for Life’ The Council on Aging of Elkhart County has gathered a team of more than 25 volunteers from area organizations and agencies to plan die first Michiana Fit for Life Games set for Aug. 13 to 16 at various venues across the area. The games will be for residents age 50 or older and proceeds from die games will benefit die area's most needy, elderly residents. ‘Terrific’ Bulldogs rnoio proviaea Nappanee Elementary School and the Nappanee Noon Kiwanis have again teamed up to recognize students who practice good character and citizenship. By focusing on the Bulldog Basics (respect, responsibility, teamwork, personal best, and no put downs) and TERRIFIC kids concepts (Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive, and Capable), teachers nominate one student from their classroom. Each week one winner is chosen from those names to be Bulldog of the Week. Nappanee Artful Quitters Guild meets July 8 The Artful Quilters Guild, for those interested in new quilting techniques, meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Nappanee Public Library. Members will meet next on July 8. Membership is open to anyone. Yearly dues are sls and are used for the benefit of the guild.
