The ECCF is also proud to award die Claude S. and Hanna M. Kegerreis Scholarships, the Henry and Alice Pedersen Educational Scholarship and the Walter O. Wells Scholarship to six of die top 10 nominees. Top 10 nominees were: Justin Yoder - Northridge; Elizabeth Dibley - Elkhart Central; Sydney Kehr - Bethany Christian Schools; Stephen Matteson - Elkhart Memorial; Megan Howard - Elkhart Christian Academy and; Kris Kirchner - Jimtown. Each student will receive SI,OOO per year for four years to any accredited college or university in the United States. In addition, students receiving the Kegerreis, Pedersen, or Wells Scholarships may also be eligible for matching scholarship awards since ECCF is a Dollars for Scholars affiliate. During the 2009-10 school year, more than $9,000 in additional scholarship money was awarded to students who attended a college or university that participated in the Scholarship America (Dollars for Scholars) Matching Partner Program. Each of these 10 outstanding individuals were recognized for their achievements at a scholarship banauet in their honor, hela on Saturday, April 17, at Das Dutchman Essenhaus in Middlebury. John Downie April 21, 2010 WAKARUSA - John Downie, 89, of Walmrusa, fcnnerly of South Bend, died at 8 JO pin. Wednesday, April 21,2010 at his residence. He is survived by his son, Chris (Tamara) Downie of Wakarusa; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. A memorial service took place at 11 a.m. Monday, April 26 at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to five Alzheimer 's Association. Julie Weldy April 21, 2010 \ BREMEN Julie Weldy, 46, of Bremen, died Wednesday, April 21,2010 at her residence. She is survived b£ her husband Tracy; daughters, Crystal (Clint) Dennie of Bourbon and Stephanie Weldy of Bremen; a grandson; her mother, Rose Plake of Warsaw, her father, Earl (Ruth) Plake of Wakarusa; a brother, Keith (Susie) Plake of Pierceton; and sisters, Marsha Russell of Greenville, Ky. and Becky Tyson of Warsaw. Visitation took place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24 at Bremen United Methodist Church. Funeral services took place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial followed at Bremen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Guardian Angels.
Richard “Don” Cain Feb. 15, 1946 Nov. 25, 2009 GENEVA, Fla. Richard Donald (Don) Cain, 63, of Geneva, Fla., passed away Nov. 25,2009. Don was bom Feb. 15,1946 to Richard Sr. and Rosemary Cain of Nappanee and Geneva. Growing up in Nappanee, he had worked at the bowling alley and other area businesses. Don had a big heart and was very loyal to everyone he cared about. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and the Masonic lodge 414 F & A.M. Don is survived by a son, Richard 111 of Florida; a daughter, Kristi Cain of Salem; his mother, Rosemary; a brother, Lynn of Geneva; a sister, Annetta Rae Hill of Nappanee; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, and daughters, Eleryn and Jami. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 2 at the Nappanee Brethren in Christ Church, 1601 N. Main St., Nappanee. Pastor Jeff Williams will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Community Church of God, P.O. Box #1164, Geneva, FL, 32732. A luncheon for friends and family will be served at the Cain residence at 256 E. Lincoln St., Nappanee, at 2 p.m. Cards with memories of Don's life would be greatly appreciated.
