Elizabeth J. Stuckman Sept. 27,1907 March 22, 2010 NAPPANEE Elizabeth J. Stuckman, 102, of 1651 E. Market, Apt. 148, Nappanee, died at 4:30 pjn. Monday,
March 22,2010 at LuAnn Nursing Home after a sudden illness. She was bom Sept. 27,1907 in Albion, Ind. to Pindell and Grace (Peyton) Prickett. She came to Nappanee from Missouri 30 years ago and married Guy Stuckman June 11, 1927 in Churubusco. He preceded her in death Sept. 6,1995. Elizabeth graduated from Albion High School and became a Linotype Operator
for the Ligonier Leader. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in lowa. She read two newspapers daily, sent out numerous Christmas cards to friends and family, and enjoyed the library. She is survived by a daughter, Jahala Kay Robie of Nappanee; two grandsons, Kevin (Allison) Robie and Tim (Beth) Robie; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Esther Helmke and Mary Lois Radcliffe, both of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by five brothers: John, Joseph, Ben, Peyton, and Paul Prickett and one great-grandchild. Elizabeth was cremated and a graveside service will be held at Rosehill Cemetery, Albion, at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nappanee Public Library. Falk has been a Club member for three years. She is a senior at North Wood High School. She is highly active at the Club by participating in the Keystone Service Club as President, Karate, and spending countless hours volunteering her time to help in numerous areas of the Club. Cooper has been a Club member for three years. He is a senior in high school. He has participated in various Club activities such as the Keystone Service Club, Karate, and volunteering his time to help the staff with various projects. Twenty-five houses that could be rented for $7 to $8 per month are badly needed for factory men who are moving here. The Wisler building is being arranged for a boarding house to help with the problem. 75 Years Ago April 4,1935 The Dunham & Love Drugstore has moved to new quarters, from across from its old location, to the Weygand Building. Also, Hatfield and Hostetter Clothing Store will now have additional space of 12 feet deep and 22 feet wide, and can now have a place for me to try on coats in large mirrors. The Weygand Building will also be occupied by the Weygand Case and Kandiland. 50 Years Ago April 7,1960 Michael Lloyd Neff, R. 3, a student at Manchester College, has been appointed an Atomic Energy Commission Special Fellow in Health Physics, one of 85 candidates selected from the entire nation. They will cover an academic year at one of seven universities, followed by three summer months of experience at an Atomic Energy Commission Laboratory.

Sylvia Graber March 26, 2010 NAPPANEE Sylvia Graber, 84, of Millersburg, formerly of Nappanee, died at 231 a.m. Friday, March 26,2010 at Elkhart General Hospital, after a short illness. She is survived by a son, Loren Ray (Esther Miller) Graber of Nappanee; daughters, Pauline Faye (William) Miller of Millersburg and Neva Fern (Marvin) Miller of Grove City, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Amanda Graber of Nappanee; son-in-law, Paul Miller of Nappanee; 25 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Visitation took place from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 27 and from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 28 at Mt. Tabor Church of God. Funeral services took place at 10 a.m. Monday, March 29 at the church. Kiwanis hears that most prisoners are jailed for drug offenses Elkhart County Deputy Sheriff Julie Dijkstra told members of the Nappanee Kiwanis Club that 70 to 80 percent of the county correctional complex's prisoners are there because of drug-related offenses. Dijkstra was the club's speaker at die March 23 meeting at Dal-Mar Banquet Center, and she said the facility currently houses about 700 county inmates and as many as 125 Indiana Department of Corrections prisoners. The deputy sheriff told members and guests that one of the goals at the county jail is to educate and train inmates by offering GED classes, addictions counseling and anger management classes, as well as apprenticeships in food handling and preparation and laundry services within the jail to reduce die 60 percent recidivism rates Dijsktra said she's seen over the past 25 years. The next Kiwanis meeting will take place April 6, with pilot Lowell Farrand describing his "Flying High Moments." Tune is 11:45 a.m. at the Dal-Mar Banquet Center. Summer driver ed classes offered North Wood High School will offer driver's education classes this summer, Jim Webster, director of guidance, said. Cost is S4OO for the course which consists of classroom instruction from 8 a.m. to noon, June 1 through 10, and driving instruction June 11 through 17, June 18 through 24, and June 25 through July 1. Driving assignments are made during the first day of classroom instruction. Registration forms are available at Northwood Middle School and North Wood High School. Forms, along with class payment, should be returned to the high school April 12 through 23. 22nd ‘Butch’ Nine golf outing June 2 The 22nd Annual Brant "Butch" Nine Memorial Open is slated for June 2 at McCormick Creek Golf Course, Nappanee, with registration now under way at the club house. The annual event is in remembrance of Sgt. Nine, who joined the Nappanee Police Department March 15,1982. He was shot and killed on Nov. 3, 1988, while attempting to apprehend a forgery suspect. The suspect was later sentenced to 110 years in prison. Over the past 21 years of the open, participants have raised more than $215,800 to award in the form of scholarships to area high school seniors. "Art for the Heart" is a free, com-munity-wide benefit event featuring live music and dance performances by local performers, and a silent auction of original, local and Haitian art.
