time, t genoki public and members of, tit wwwjwppaneehealthandfit- —- ■■■" ' I. ■■■All. I, ■....1*,-.| l jj A season of growing By Brennan Angle MW STUDENT Part 2 of 2 ;• Last week, Brennan introduced readers to his thoughts on the 2009-10 boys freshman basketball team and its season of growing. Today, he continues: I don't remember how it came to me, but I believe it was one Wednesday at church. I just felt like I was being talked to by God. I remember Him saying, "This year hasn't gone how you wanted, but will you still shine My light?" That clicked with me. I realized we had been doing it all wrong. I talked with a few of my buddies on the team who 1 knew were spiritual as well. They totally agreed. The year may have been over for basketball wins, but we still had a job. I felt like we were being called to make die players around us better, to build them up and help them grow in life as well. These were our peers. I knew that things needed to change; I needed to start using my talents I had been given for His glory not mine. I think down the line we began to do better at both of those, we didnt go on a ridiculous winning streak, but basketball wasn"t what He was working on. I think we made tremendous strides. Now I'm not saying this at all to be like, "Look at me." I'm saying this to show what God had done. We were a lost team that had nothing going for them: injuries, quitting, losing, etc. We were just a freshman basketball team, but to us this meant the world. Look what God can do through us even in a year like this. It truly proves that He's always with us. I wish we would've realized this at the beginning of the year, but at least we did now, moving forward. My hope is that now we can carry that on to upcoming basketball years and we can be a team playing not for ourselves, but for Him. This may seem minor to some people, but to me, it was pretty awesome. I feel like I have been asked to share this story for a reason; I wouldn't have shared it without purpose. Hopefully someone can take something out of this story. God is always with you. He will never close a door without first opening a new one. And that's what we learned as a team through our season of growing.
