Slabaugh 100th Family and friends gathered Jan. 24 to celebrate the 100th birthday of Fannie Slabaugh, 6121 W. 1350 North, Nappanee. Elkhart County Sofl and Water Conservation District annual meeting The 68th annual meeting of the Elkhart County Soil ang Water Conservation District (SWCD) was held in the Martin Koran of the ECCC Building, on die Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds, in Goshen Feb. 'B. One hundred and thirty-eight people attended. Following dinner by Dal-Mar Catering, Jim Hess, SWCD Board Chairman, led a short business meeting. Tom Kercher, vice chairman of the SWCD Board, conducted the supervisor election. Alex Wait, Elkhart, was elected to serve a three.year term on the SWCD Board. At the close of the meeting, David Foutz, Elkhart County Councilman, swore Wait into office. Awards, sponsored by the Elkhart County Soil and Water Conservation District, were presented as follows: • The highest placing Elkhart County student in the area 10 Soil Judging contest was Adam Wenger, Northwood High School. Individual Soils Judging Senior FFA Team Awards: Carrie Anglemeyer, Nolan Drudge, Skyler Stutzman, and Ashley Leer (all Fairfield High School). Individual Soils Judging Junior FFA Team Awards: Sam Burtsfield, Calie Gordon, and Jesse Gantz (all Fairfield High School). Soils Judging Awards, Team Award: Fairfield High School (Kraig Bowers, Fairfield coach). • Other Youth Award winners were: Poster Contest Cover Artist, Alexa Klopfenstein; State poster contest winner, Maya Klopfenstein; 4-H Soil and Water Conservation Award, Joshua Anderson; 4-H Forestry Award, Hannah Johnson; 4-H Wildlife Award, Connor Deal. • Adult Awards were presented to: Justin Miller, Conservation Farmer and River Friendly Farmer of the Year; Anne Cope, Woodland Elementary, Educator of the Year; Randy Miller, Waterford Elementary, Educator of the Year; Urban Conservationists of the Year to Niblock Excavating and Asphalt, and Slusser's Green Thumb; and Friend of the SWCD, Kent Sawyer.

Amanda Roae and Ben Vandermark were united in marriage Sept 19, 2009 at Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, Fort Wayne. The bride wore a white, taffeta, side-draped, trumpet gown with an empire waist and beaded sweetheart neckline and chapel train and a beaded, elbow-length veil made by the groom's mother. Red soaes were bundled with silk ribbon and pearl accent*. The matron of honor was friend of the couple, Trade Copass, Indianapolis. The bridesmaids were sister-in-law of the bride, Joni Rose, Columbia City, and cousin of the bride, Charity Prater; Pierceton. The junior bridesmaid was niece of die groom, Nicole Byrd, LaPrate. The bride's attendants were attired in emerald and scariett knee-length, ruched, silk dresses. Each bridesmaid carried red roses bundled with a silk white ribbon. The best man was brother of the bride, Randy Rose, Pierceton. The groomsmen were brother of the bride Simon Rose, Coluntbia City and brother of the groom Tad Vandermark, Syracuse. The ushers were nephews of the bride Sebastian Rose, Columbia City, and Jacob Rose, Columbia City and friend of the couple, Tommy Deßossett, Leesburg. The ring bearer was son of .the 1 couple, Kaden Vandermark, Nappanee. The flower girls were niece of the bride, Scarlett Rose, Columbia City, and cousin of the bride Davanna Schmucker, Warsaw. Approximately 100 people attended the reception held at Terrace Garden Foellinger Friemann Botanical Conservatory. The couple returned to their home in Nappanee following their wedding trip to Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, Hawaii and stayed at The Royal Hawaiian, "Pink Palace.” The bride's parents, Bruce and Kimberly Rose reside in Pierceton. The bride is a 2000 graduate of Whitko High School and a 2004 graduate of Ball State with a bachelor's degree in Social Work. She is employed at Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice as a social worker.

Kincaid Travis and Kim Kincaid, Bremen, announce tire birth of twins bom at 7:31 p.m. and 7:35 p.m. Nov. 25, 2009 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Jack Avery Kincaid weighed 5 pounds, 6 ounces and was 18 inches long. Kate Lynn Kincaid weighed 5 pounds, 3 ounces and was 18 inches long. Purdue Alumni Club of Elkhart County offers scholarships In 2009, the Purdue Alumni Club Foundation of Elkhart County awarded 27 scholarships totaling $16,000 to local students. The club hopes to exceed that in 2010. Both incoming and returning undergraduate students who are residents of Elkhart County and are also enrolled full time at Purdue University are eligible to apply for a scholarship.
