FFA Week Almost 10,000 FFA members across Indiana will celebrate National FFA Week from Feb. 20 through 27 with the theme of "Lead Out Loud." Reprogal has three children, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. She grew up around Nappanee and worked at several locations in Nappanee over foe years. She is a member of foe Church of the Brethren. Sieets and Reprogal were long-time friends in their younger years. They played cards with their husbands and other couples, and joined in other activities together. Virginia Platz, also a resident at LuAnn Nursing Home, celebrated her birthday Feb. 2. She turned 95 years old, fklong with Fawn Heisler, whose birthday is Feb. 17. Platz graduated from high school in 1933 and a graduate from Methodist School of Nursing in 1943. She worked at tiie Veteran Hospital in Indianapolis as an RN. Platz worked sot Eli Lilly for 10 years and worked many years as an internist in Indianapolis helping diabetic patients. She moved back to Bremen in 1989. Platz and Reprogal also have something else in common besides living long, full lives. Platz's daughter is married to Reprogal's son, which makes them family. Heisler was a farmer's wife and worked most of her life in the fields in Etna Green. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed canning and gardening. Heisler was a cook at Etna Green Schools for 13 years and also worked with the Lion's Club. These women have shared in many events during their lives and have many memories to share with their families. Now at foe same residency, they share an uncommon age. Water/Wastewater Superintendent Gale Gerber reminded foe board that he'd come to them a few weeks ago seeking additional funds for foe work at a cost not to exceed SIO,OOO. After reviewing foe situation Gerber said he discovered they can do a change order instead of spending city funds. It would increase foe cost of foe project but he felt it was the best way to proceed. This change order would need approval from tiie State Revolving Fund. Archaeological survey As part of the water well field project an archaeological study must be performed. Gerber said their representative Scott Hughes obtained four quotes and foe least expensive quote was from IPFW. The board approved having IPFW do the study at a cost not to exceed SI,OOO. Test wells The board approved excavation on public property permit for borings at Market Street Auto. Zoning Administrator Don Lehman explained that a company would be putting in three test wells, all on city property, to be sure that no possible contaminants had spread. Lehman said two of foe testing areas are in the parking area to foe west of Templeton Shell and foe other is to the north on foe old Kellogg property. Lehman told the board they make small plugholes and then patch them back up. "They removed tanks several years ago so they have to test periodically," Lehman explained. "I'm not anticipating any problems." Fire personnel changes Several changes in personnel were approved at tiie fire department. The board accepted foe resignation of longtime firefighter Tracy Newcomer, who'd been with the department 27 years, according to Chief Don Lehman. Board also accepted foe resignation of Scott Fried, six year member. The resignations were effecting Jan. Ist. Also approved was a leave of absence for firefighter Chris Abel. In Other Business: • Approved an exemption to the noise ordinance for the Parks Dept, to allow mowing at foe golf course before 7 a.m. • Approved adding Danny Hawkins as a police reserve officer effective Feb. 1. Also in police business, approved Officer Jeremy Hooky's attendance at a Defensive Tactics Instructor Course at foe Indiana Police Academy April 1216. • Approved adding two new basic Emergency Medical Technicians—Ronald Linville and Amanda Irvin.
