North Wood fourth graders claim tournament title
•Fourth graders finish perfect season North Wood's fourth grade boys basketball team captured the tournament title at the Elkhart Sports Center, completing their fall schedule with a perfect 11-0 record. After finishing the regular season 8-0, the Panthers received a bye in the first round of the tourney. In the second round North Wood defeated Edwardsburg 37-8. Drew Minnich led in scoring with 12 points and Luke Zurcher and Vincent Miranda each had 7. Trey Bilinski tossed in 4, Vince Herschberger 3 and Travis Stephenson and Jaron Mullet scored 2 apiece.

Spaghetti supper There will be a spaghetti supper fundraiser for North Wood High School wrestling Jan. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Tickets are $6 each.
Scholarship application deadline is Jan. 15
Elkhart County 4-H'ers can apply for accomplishment scholarships in 10th grade through one full year aifter their 4-H eligibility ends. The majority of scholarships require 4-H'ers to be high school seniors. There are also state 4-H scholarship opportunities. Packets with specific criteria and applications are available at the Elkhart and Goshen offices of Purdue Extension.
Applications are available on the Elkhart County Extension Web site, www. ces.purdue.edu/elkhart/ under the 4-H activities link. Individual assistance will be available Jan. 8 in the Martin Room from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for suggested improvements to draft applications. Applications are due in the extension office Jan. 15 for all 4-H scholarships except

In the semifinals, the Panthers beat Concord 41-25. Leading the way in scoring was Vincent Miranda with 16 followed by Drew Minnich with 10. Trey Bilinski scored 7, Luke Zurcher 4, Jaron Mullet and Travis Stephenson 2 each. In the championship, North Wood turned back a much improved Fairfield squad in a low scoring 18-17 contest. Scoring was provided by Vincent Miranda with 7, Trey Bilinski 5 (and a key three pointer in the second half), Drew Minnich 4 and Luke Zurcher 2. The fourth grade team has compiled a 19-2 record over two seasons and will continue playing this winter in the Elkhart Sports Center league which starts Jan. 10.
Nappanee chamber taking beautification nominations Nominations are now being accepted for the Nappanee Area Chamber of Commerce fourth quarter beautification award. The fourth quarter qualifications include new businesses only. The deadline, to make a nomination is Jan. 19.
