Obituary Gary Wayne Barr July 9, 1946-Dec. 28, 2008
NAPPANEE Gary Wayne Barr, 62, of Nappanee died Sunday, Dec. 28 at 1:30 a.m. at Rivercrest Specialty Hospital in Mishawaka. He had been in ill health for eight years following a stroke and was at Rivercrest for two weeks. He was born July 9, 1946 in Plymouth to Darrel and Merril (Stoneburner) Barr.
He was married to Judy K. Surface March 4, 1967 at the United Brethren Church in Bourbon and moved to Nappanee from Bremen in 1970. He was a 1964 graduate of Triton High School and completed the Dale Carniege Course. He retired as the National Director of Customer Relations for Liberty Home in Goshen. Prior to working there, he worked for Fairmont Homes in Nappanee for 17 years. He is survived by his wife, Judy Barr; sons: Bryan (Dale) Barr of Nappanee and Doug Barr of Nappanee; granddaughters: Dylann and Wrigley Barr; brother, Ken (Loretta) Barr of Plymouth; sisters: Judy (David) Watts of North Carolina (name of town not provided), and Anita Condon of Bourbon; and mother and father-in-law; Harold and Florence Surface of Nappanee. He was preceded in death by two sons: Shawn Christopher Barr in 1973 and Gregory Wavne Barr in 1976. Visitation was Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee. Funeral services began Saturday, Jan. 3 at the funeral home at 10 a.m. and proceeded to 1.0.0. F. Cemetery in Tyner, where graveside services took place at 10:30 a.m. Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to CAPS.
