Carol J. Stump Sept. 7; 1919 - Feb. 25, 2008

Carol Stump passed away in San Francisco, Calif, on Feb. 25, 2008. She was 88 years old. Carol was born in Nappanee on Sept. 7, 1919 to Walter and Edna Clouse and grew up in the same town. She and Dave Stump were married on Feb. 18, 1939 in Nappanee and four years later gave birth to their first child, Hugh. In 1944, this young family of three (soon to be four) left

Nappanee for a new life in Southern California. Later that year Carol gave birth to Kathy in Upland, a small town near Los Angeles. Carol and Dave lived in various locations in California, New York and Oregon; soon after Dave died in 2004, Carol moved to Sonoma, Calif. Carol was a patient and loving mother and grandmother and a dedicated homemaker. She served as president of the Parent Teachers Association during her children's early school years and later volunteered for more than 15 years with the American Cancer Society of Palm Desert. Carol was a genuinely kind person. She will be dearly missed by her sister, Jeanette; her children, Hugh and Kathy; her grandchildren: Robin, Seth, Kari and Kristi; and by many, many people who were fortunate enough to have enjoyed her caring friendship. A memorial service was held at Sonoma Hills, 405 West MacArthur St., Sonoma, Calif, at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008. Donations can be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society.
