It will not be easy for Hochstetler to leave behind the relationships she has made over the years. "It's been a nice place to work," she said. "It got to where it was like a family." One person she remembers vividly was Gordon "Short" McCormick. "Some of the fun memories are when we used to have summer parties at Short's house on Syracuse Lake," she said. One of her biggest challenges was learning how to do everything by computer. "It's a lot more computerized now than it was," she said. "So much of it when I started was writing, and when everything started going computer, that was the most challenging. Aside from friends and family, community involvement has always been an important part of Hochstetler's life. She has been involved in Kiwanis since 1987, when the club first began admitting women. She also works with Cub Scouts, is president of Nappanee's Neighborhood Watch program and is an active member of the Nappanee United Methodist Church. In her spare time, she enjoys reading novels, especially mysteries by authors like Mar\ r Higgins Clark.
