Clowning Club New for 200/, youth in fourth grade and up may enroll in the 4-H Clown Club. You must also enroll in the 4-H program to participate in 4-H clowning. There is no registration fee to join the 4-H program. Youth are responsible for the cost of their make-up kit and supplies. This club offers an introduction to the art of clowning. The club gives youth a chance to develop their own individual clown character and perform as part of the 4-H clown troupe throughout the area, as well as at the 2007 Elkhart County 4-H Fair. Each youthful participant will create their own individual
character for their performances. The first meeting for 2007 will be on Monday, Jan. 22 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Home and Family Arts building of the Elkhart County fairgrounds in Goshen. Meetings continue once a month on the fourth Monday of each month. This meeting will introduce new members to the opportunities available in the 4-H Clowning club and accept registrations. In order for youth to be prepared to perform at the 2007 Fair, youth should plan to begin this club now. The club offers youth an introduction to the performing arts through clowning. Topics covered include application of makeup, costume, teamwork, skit development and clowning skills. The club will also introduce youth to balloon making techniques and the art of face painting. The benefits of clowning reach far beyond the opportunities to perform at the fair and throughout the year. Clowning enhances selfesteem, increases public speaking skills and helps youth learn the value of cooperation and teamwork. If you would like to join 4-H clowning but cannot attend the January meeting, please call to get information on how to be a part of this club. If you have questions about the program, call the Elkhart County Extension office at 523-2216 or the 4-H Clown Club leader, Debbie Yoder at 534-2421.
