Seven young ladies vie for Apple Blossom title
The 2006 Miss Apple Blossom Pageant will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at North Wood High School. Miss Apple Blossom will be crowned and awarded SI,OOO and will represent Nappanee during the Apple Festival in September and throughout the year at various events and parades. The first runner-up will receive S3OO, with the second runner-up receiving S2OO. The remaining contestants will be part of the court. The girls will be judged on biographical information, an interview, stage presence and an essay titled "Why I Like the Apple Festival."
Nappanee • At approximately 1:09 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, Martin's Supermarket called the Nappanee Police Department to report a vehicle leaving its parking lot with people who had just stolen several items from the store. The vehicle was soon located by Nappanee Police, who stopped it in the 100 block of North Locke Street. The three people inside, Ricardo Ramirez, 23, Marisol Centero, 25 and Estela Franco, 24, all of Indianapolis, were found to be in possession of the stolen items. All three were then taken into custody. Ramirez was charged with Operating while Never Licensed and Display of an Altered Interim Plate. Centero and Franco were charged with Theft. All three were taken to the Elkhart County Detention Facility. • At approximately 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, Nappanee Police drove to 652 West Walnut, and there took Travis J. Walters, 18, of Nappanee, into custody for two outstanding warrants on charges of check deception. He was taken into custody without incident and was later transported to the Elkhart County Detention Facility.
