MynjAL ki/mir Union Center Church of the Brethren • Jim Worthing, a Nashville recording artist, is coming to the Union Center Church of the Brethren on Sunday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m. The church is located at the comer of County Roads 50 and 11, northeast of Nappanee. Worthing will be bringing an evening of gospel music and testimony to the church. Worthing is a native of Altoona, Penn., and now makes his home in Grenada, Miss., while keeping his organizational connection to Nashville. He is in his 26th year of professional singing. He has appeared in 48 states, Canada, the Bahamas and Switzerland. He has sung with two national award-winning groups, Re-Creation and was the lead singer with the Cumberland Boys Quartet. II m rfc llAiMift rOMCOReporT Nappanee • On April 22, at approximately 2:44 a.m., an officer from the Nappanee Police Department stopped a vehicle, which was a 1989 GMC pick-up truck, for a burned out brake light. The driver, later identified as Todd D. McKibben, 36, of Nappanee, had a very strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the passenger's compartment, as well as his person. The officer had McKibben perform field sobriety tests, all of which he failed. He was then given a certified breath test at the Nappanee Police Department, the result of which was a .11 percent BrAC. McKibben was charged with Operating While Intoxicated and was transported to the Elkhart County Jail with a $1,500 bond. • On April 23, at approximately 2:18 a.m., Joseph R. Police at the intersection of County Roads 3 and 50, after his vehicle was observed driving left of the center and off the right side of the road as well. Once stopped, Hochstetler was found to have an odor on his person that is commonly associated with that of an alcoholic beverage, and was asked to perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. After failing all tests, Hochstetler was given a certified breath test, which he gave a breath sample of .17 percent BrAC. He was then arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, and was transported to the Elkhart County Jail, where he was held on a $1,500 bond. • According to police reports, at approximately 3:34 a.m. on Sunday, April 23, an officer from the Nappanee Police Department was almost struck head-on by two subjects on a moped, driving on the wrong side of the road. officer continued after the subjects, and they ran the moped through several yards and ditched the moped in the backyard of 313 S. Main St. Officers checked the area and found a local business open, and conducted a building search of the facility. The officers then located one of the subjects hiding with a blanket over his head in the bathroom. The subject was ordered out by gunpoint, and identified himself as Geoffery E. Riddle, 18, of Nappanee. Riddle was found to be 18 years old, and was intoxicated with a BrAC of .18 percent. He was charged with Illegal Consumption of an Alcoholic Beverage and Criminal Trespass. He was transported to the Elkhart County Jail with a $3,000 bond. Later, the other subject that fled was located, and it was found out that it was a male juvenile, whose name is being withheld.

Explorer takes lirst The Young Hoosier Quiz Bowl was held on April 17 at North Wood Middle School, where 16 student teams and one teacher team competed. Representatives from the Wakarusa and Nappanee Public Libraries made up die questions about the Young Hoosier books. After nearly two hours of quizzing, scores were tabulated and three of the student teams tied for first place. Two tie breaking questions were then needed to determine the winning team. One of the sixth grade Explorer teams came in first place, comprised of Ryan Gerber, Robert Gongwer, Garrett Hess and Sean Thompson. Taking second place
