Eventful year to this point for Stouder
By Anthony Godson CJU-, canor Compared to her freshman season, North Wood senior Erika Stouder has noticed some change in her volleyball game. "It's changed a ton," she said. North Wood coach Peg Bough has also noticed Stouder's improvement. "It has changed," she said. "Especially between her junior and senior years, it's become really excellent." The improvement in her game has been rewarded with accolades. She first led the Red Slam to its first sectional championship since 2000 with a 3-0 win over Northridge on Oct. 22 at Wawasee High School. Stouder then played in the 15th annual Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA) Indiana All-Star Volleyball Classic on Sunday, Nov. 20 in Indianapolis. Following that, she officially signed her letter-of-intent to continue her volleyball career at Indiana Tech on a partial scholarship. "We're excited about adding Erika to our team," Indiana Tech coach Laura Douglas said. "She will give us someone in the middle who can hit." Hitting the ball is something Stouder has excelled at during her volleyball days at North Wood. Following her senior season, she left North Wood's program as its alltime kill leader with 1,125, she also set the single season kill

record of 610 this past season. In past years, Stouder has played alongside 2005 North Wood graduate Audrey Duncan, but that changed this season. "It was really different to be the one looked to, because in the past I've always played behind Duncan," she said about being the go-to hitter on the team. Her success at scoring points provided plenty of problems for the Red Slam opposition. Behind her hitting, North Wood claimed a sectional championship, something Stouder is proud to have accomplished during her senior campaign. "It was awesome for my senior year," she said about the title. "Not many people get the chance to win a sectional championship." Following the North Wood season, Stouder asked Bough to nominate her for the all-star game, a game that only coaches in the ICGSA can nominate players for. "I don't nominate that many players, but when she asked me to, I talked to her about it, then nominated her," Bough said. "She then tried out, and earned a spot." There are 40 senior girls who are nominated for each of the four teams (IA/2A North and South and the 3A/4A North and South), with only 14 making it for each squad. Stouder made the 3A/4A North team, which lost 2-1 to the 3A/4A South team.
