Bids awarded for South Main Street Sewer Project

Beer & Slabaugh's bid of $74,577 was chosen over Haskins, Inc. out of Plymouth, who submitted a bid of $85,358. Commonwealth Engineers, Inc. President Mark Downey received the two bids, then went into a separate room to calculate the two contractors bids once pipe prices are set. Downey calculated the two contractor's pipe prices into the equation. "This will lock the price in, and it's not subject to escalate," Downey said. After looking everything over, Downey made the recommendation to accept the Nappanee company's bid. "We've had experience with both corrlpanies, and both are responsible," he said. Later in the meeting, the board accepted a dual response area agreement between the Nappanee Fire Department and the Foraker (Union Township) Fire Department. The north boundary of the dual response area, which was agreed upon in the 2005 Fire Protection Contract, begins at the corner of State Road 19 North and County Road 46. It

travels east on CR 46 until it hits CR 9, where it then jogs south until it hit CR 50. Once - on CR 50, the line once again travels east until it hits CR 13, where it once again travels south to CR 52. Once at CR 52, the end of the line travels east until it runs into CR 17. Nappanee Fire Chief Tom Anglin mentioned that agreements have been in place to respond to the area over the years, and that no boundaries have been adjusted. Anglin also informed the board that Scott and Jefferson Townships have begun work with Rod Beer for a south side fire station. Anglin commented that a 25 by 50-foot bay will be used on Wabash Street. The station will be used to combat the train which sometimes interrupts response times.
